Carol isn't wrong Hughes' best comparable is Makar.

If he gets paid so be it.

I hate it when i agree with you.

Bingo & could be what is delaying signing.
- Nighthawk

I'm sure we discussed this last year. I'll repeat, what have these kids won? You don't want to wind up like the Leafs with a bunch of soft overpaid players who can't take their team to the next level. Let them earn it when the games count, then pay them.

No it’s not. He’s the most mobile of the D & can carry the biscuit out & a PP QB & drives the play.
- Nighthawk

Yes it is.
He gets caught up ice leading to many odd man rushes, because he isn't smart enough to realize he is supposed to be playing defense.
His choices of passes are sometimes questionable and he doesn't shoot the puck very well.

It is. I think you could make a fair argument that Makar has been better in his own end and pay him a little less.

The counter argument is you give Hughes a bridge deal, he continues to develop and then you end up on the hook paying him 11m++ a year.

Look at Nurse.
They could have locked him up long term for 7m last contract, but they bridged him and are now paying him 9.25m until he's 35.

Nurse is good, but i don't think he's a 10 ten Dman.

100% 👍

Furthermore 1 dimensional D don’t get elite money. Imo a 1-1.5m shave. He is not as well rounded as Makar & size is a problem.

I did. Drance’s tweet confused me… “No trade protection on the contract”

At first glance it could mean two things as in:

“No trade” protection on contract.

or

No “trade protection” on contract.

I’ve never liked Twitter journalists.

They're as much journalists as EK.

Thanks Carol, decent deal for Dickinson.

So, the agents say there’s no holdup but the fan base is calling for a rebuild (aka trade the bums they aren’t worth that kind of money)?

Seems about right.

If Hughes gets 11++ per season this team is hooped. Oilers overpaid because they have no other Dmen. They screwed themselves with this contract.

Hedman, 2 Cups probably the best allrounder at the position. Proven winner at 7.8 mil per.

If Hughes or his agent are asking more he needs to play himself to at least Hedman's level. He's not even close right now. Fact is, if you want to build a winner, you put wins before the paycheck.

Ya, but he signed it 4 years ago.
That was the going rate then.
Currently he would get about 9m +
In 3-4 years it'll be 11m+

Doesn't matter when he signed it. That's where I'd set the bar. Hedman took a haircut long term to be part of a winning team. That's the sort of culture you need to build to win.

If that’s the price I bridge him. Wait til Bones makes him expendable if he pans out then trade Hughes if he does.
- Nighthawk

Rathbone making Hughes expendable.... HAHAHA.

Thanks, needed a good chuckle.

Totally.

We should sign Pettersson to Nathan MackKinnnon's contract at 7 x 6.3m too.

Problem solved.
