No, JVR has been a good player overall for the Flyers. If you want to label it not a great signing or not the right time then fine but it was not a bad signing overall from any perspective.

most players trend up at 28 yrs old, makes sense. you know it didnt have anything to do with playing in toronto and their elite skill. It was all JVR trending up at 28

He was 23 at the time. That post is concerning Voracek. Get it together.

Who would you rather have Laughton or JVR regardless of cap hit? Id take Laughton hands down. And now throw salary in there, and JVRs contract is a joke

You aren't doing yourself any favors here. Unless you have something concrete and somewhat intelligent to offer, this particular discussion is done from my side.

JVR is a good guy and a good player, but not nearly good or impactful enough to ever earn 6 x $7M. It was an overpay at the time, and given who Seattle picked from the Flyers in the ED, it still is an overpay. As I posted earlier, I don't see JVR on this team past this coming season.

Back to your usual not answering stuff eh? You did that pretty well when we talked about the ellis/meyers trade. Good on you lol

Salary rank - 67th in the league.
Goals scored since He signed that contract rank - 58th in the league.

Seems like its right in line for what he is paid for.

You keep saying he is a "role player" who gets most of his goals on the PP.

That is demonstrably false.

We can probably reach a consensus that he is slightly overpaid, but not by much. This isn't 1998 where 7 million is near the top of the salary structure.

We need to get some perspective here.

Hmmm .. Laughton scores 12-15 goals a year, JVR scores 25+ goals a year. Money being equal, its kind of a no-brainer.

He was a UFA and they were about to sign Tavares. If you are going to make an argument, at least make an honest argument.

I wasn't trying to be dishonest, actually forgot Toronto signed Tavares the same FA period.

in that rational, JVR is better than G
I judge things differently. Laughton can move up and down the lineup, play D, play PK, play faster. But no he doesnt score as many goals. You must hate that Danault signing from chicago, that guy barely gets any points for that salary, and 1 goal in 22 playoff games

The expansion draft has nothing to do with the signing. You always overpay somewhat in free agency. Especially for skill players and goal scorers. Which JVR is.

I would argue you can find players like Laughton much easier than you can find potential 30+ goal scorers. I like Laughton, don't get me wrong, but following the hypothetical of equal money and a choice between the 2, I would pick JVR.
