This is true…but let’s not pretend the Flyers are the only team that has some contracts where by the players aren’t quite living up to salary wise. Yes JVR isn’t a 7 mill a year player, but he’s still productive.
There are way worse contracts that other teams have then JVR’s. The question stands though….for who ? Or for what? If he’s only good enough for 3rd line duty in Philly….then who’s trading for him and his 7 million 2 year year deal?

- landros 2

Yes absolutely EVERY team has players (contracts) that are “bad” like Jvr. The problem is
1) the real contenders have few of those
2) the mediocre teams have many

Where do the flyers fit in?

At trade deadline every year there are roughly 10 or so teams that feel they have legitimate chance at cup run. Surely there will be teams that will be looking for scoring pp specialist type. To take a Jvr on with basically 1 year left plus a playoff run is very attractive.

Many ways the return could go could do many different type package deals.

Coots is in there why wouldn’t he be? He’s been here 10 years. And coots is more for the pending contract that is same ol same ol. How many times people gotta see this movie. We know he’s getting term. We know he’s getting $ we know he isn’t living up to it. Why be the team to do it. It doesn’t work.

Oh wait he’s as good as Bergy. Which is laughable in itself.
Selkes
Bergy 4
Coots 1

The biggest asset of both players and Bergy is light years ahead of coots.

As Bill suggested, JVR probably has been shopped after being left unprotected….is there a fit ? Obviously not yet. Do I think it’s possible ? Well they traded Vorecek and that salary, so ya maybe….I do agree they needed change…to me that was obvious. To Fletch’s credit he has revamped a poor D core. Is there more to come ? Maybe.

I said this a week or so ago, if they do it will be at the TD. Only 2 ways, they are in the hunt but other have stepped up and they add a lesser piece to fill for JVR or disaster has happen and they are sellers. Keep in mind JVR's real salary is not 7 mil

That is true. The salary isn’t that in actual $ and for some teams that matters. I still think if they could move it that it only makes sense if they plan to add some piece to replace him.

Ghost is gone, Jake is gone... coots has far exceeded currently and will probably play up to the value of his next contract. Hayes earned it in year one, year two not so much. And as much as folks don’t like to admit, Giroux earns his contract as well. Jvr performs near his contract as well. So keep rambling
- ClaudeFather

G earning his contract now? Or last few years? K.

And I get Hayes. Obviously he’s a little over payed but at least the dude brings extras. I can live with Hayes.

And the point was having so many of those contracts is bad.

Yeah I’m smarter. I see coots for exactly what he is. He’s a very nice player. A great 2c but average 1c if forced into that roll. It’s not a knock on him. And I see that he’s been underpayed and agree 100% the player SHOULD and would be completely stupid if he doesn’t max out his next contract.

And I see he won’t live up to that contract. And those are the times you move the player for assets. It’s asset management and part of the business. It’s reason I hate the cap world.

I also see that under absolutely NO circumstance do you be loyal to player at expense of the team.

Well there WILL be more to come. The question is when?
Personally I think this team will struggle to make the playoffs. They are definitely better on paper from last year but idk if they crack top 4 in division. I can easily see them finishing 6th or 7th. Either way even if they squeak into playoffs they’re 1 and done.

I’d rather them implode and completely blow the core up and whole core not just Jake. It’s just time.

Forward core should score about the same as last year, you lose Jake but you gain a few years on some kids that should put up more points to make up the difference from Atkinson (not to mention his other attributes), I really think the D is set to put up some solid points this year - not just goals but the layout to actually push the puck forward should be alot better with potentially the best D lineup we have had in a few years. If the power play can be ok and PK improves (Atkinson is stellar in that department) This team is absolutely a playoff team and hopefully buyers at the TDL. The situation with Rasmus would be interesting if he does not have interest in extending here (or if he does not play as hoped) but those contracts to Jones, Hamilton and now Nurse are not going to help us resign the kid to a reasonable kit. Loved Nurse, but no way he's worth that kind of money in the flat cap era.

They have pieces coming. And he’s a 3rd line winger. Pp specialist. You really only need to replace his pp which honestly IMO whole decent I don’t think he’s as great as some people make him out to be.

You me and everyone SHOULD be harping loud as you can so these idiots in front office hear us. Because the bean counters care about one thing only. Profits.

Here’s example… coots/risto what will those contracts be? Are they part of the solution(cup winner) or part of the problem ( bad contracts that hamper cup contention)

Just accepting contract as “it is what it is” allows team to believe it’s accepted.

Fans actually do have have input. With your voice and your $$$.

there are very few locks to make the playoffs, the salary cap has leveled the playing field. Should the Flyers make the playoffs? Yes, but there are no locks.

Scott?
Fletcher?
Omg laughable it is actually but yes surely you’re right.

Honestly could or would any of us do worse?

1) what’s the average span of head coach?
2) what’s the average span of gm?

I would say Homer having the guts to trade Carter and Richards, knowing some issues that may take place if he did not, was a heck of a decision that few people on this board would have done. Carters gone on to have a fine career but the return on both was stellar and the right move - although at the time I think some people were ready with pitchforks and torches. Homer gets crap for a few signings but overall I have absolutely no beef with his time as GM, The man bleeds orange.

If say isle and canes as close to lock as most.

Leaving
Philly
Pitt
Washington
Rags
Hell even devils to fight for last 2 spots.

I think pit still gets in as long as semi healthy.
Leaving last spot. Are we better than Washington? I don’t think so

Rags? Maybe because they are young but I don’t think we beat them out either..

Devils? I think that’s maybe the one we could beat out.

Personally I think it’ll go and finish
Isle
Canes
Pitt
Washington
Rags
Devils
Flyers
Columbus

With maybe flyers beating out devils and long shot at beating out rags.

I love what they did to the defensive pairs. They added some players that fit nicely. I think this will result in a much improved team. They will compete.

They will not trade people away at this point unless they are bringing assets that impact now. They are going for it.
