ty was only 5'8" but top ten fighter of his generation. I know Max is no Ty, but its the size of fight in the dog not the size of dog but it doesn't hurt to have both. Our team.lacks both. Crosby and malkin.cant be our toughest or will.once again get ragdolled in the playoffs...im sure jarry would like someone to clear the front of the net, poor guy kept getting run over no wonder his psychic was shot...

That nurse contract cannot be good for filling out the team with solid depth.

This is from the Oilers' blog on HB

"But 9.25 million a season... ooooofff. Thank you Columbus, Dallas, and Chicago for helping to create this mess. Heiskanen got paid 8.45 million, followed by Werenski getting a 9.5 million dollar deal and Seth Jones getting 9.5 million as well."

I am very glad that we are not over paying in this market...

What's Letang, 3rd in D scoring this past season, going to get?

Tough decision. Do you think he expects to command that type of money next year?

It's not a tough decision for me, really. Give him what he wants. Hopefully he wants a more competitive team around him in his final years but if he wants a big pay day I think he's earned it and the right to ask for it.

Just give him what he wants? Yep that's a great way to run a sports franchise in a hard cap league! Whatever the 35 year old wants give it to him!

That's not really in our power. We don't have unlimited cap and we're cap strapped as is with his current cap hit. I think its probably likely Letang wants to finish his career here, and will accept a reasonable, team friendly deal like all reports say Malkin will. But if he wants to go chasing one last bag, don't think anyone can fault him. We'll give him the best offer we can and after that, ball's in his court.

No just give him want he wants. Screw the cap, that silly thing doesn't apply when it comes to the Tanger!

Yeah I didn't mean or think he'd price himself out of town hahah But I do think a raise might be possible and I wouldn't be against it/want him to retire a Penguin. 9.5 would be too high for Pens.

FWIW.... Yohe said Letang will want market rates and Geno will take a discount. After watching this off-season, not sure Hexy is going to break the bank for either.

In terms of on ice play recently Letang could command a decent paycheque for a 1-3 yr contract.

Not that malkin hasn’t played well when he plays, but he is frequently Injured and has a jeckyll and Hyde thing going with his play. His consistency is probably going to continue to go down. IMO what he is bringing is equal in value to a home town discount.

So, you give Letang the money Geno is discounting?

Just structure their contracts in almost all bonus money and they will be cool with a market rate discount.

It's pretty astounding how certain teams just don't learn. They're going to have to thin out their team a little next season.

Letang will be 35 by the time he reaches free agency. I don't care how well he plays, nobody is sinking major money or term into him. I think he'd top out at what he's making now, but my guess is he gets around the $6M mark.

Given the contracts that GMs hand out every year, nothing surprises me anymore. Letang could get $10 mil and five years from someone and I’d probably just shrug and have a beer.

Given his production and some of the deals signed last year I would expect around 8 mill on a 2-3 year contract. I think Geno drops his deal enough to balance out the Letang deal, but who knows with Ovechkin's new deal.

Pretty much. If Letang has another similar year to last, I can see someone offering him a 9m contract for 1-2 years at a time. As long as he stays healthy he is a damn good Dman.

I hope hextall has this sorted out ASAP because I do believe he could fetch a good haul. There’s no point in letting him walk for nothing just to take a run at winning a playoff series.

Yeah, unfortunately that's always a possibility. Also, I get the feeling Letang has felt slighted by the Pens, so who knows if he'd want to come back. Not sure if Hextall will make him feel more appreciated than JR did.
