Good defenseman, but that is mind-boggling.

What a disaster of a franchise.

More than makar lol

Worst run franchise in the league

- Codes1087

I get that they gotta pay extra to keep people in northern Alberta.
But, At $9.25 million, he'd be the fifth-highest paid defenceman in the league in 2022-23, out-earned by only Erik Karlsson, Drew Doughty, Zach Weresnki and Seth Jones.

Yikes.

Of course. Why else would half of Alberta continually spend all their time off in BC.

And 3 out of those 4 are universally agreed to be terrible contracts now

You also should never sign someone to an 8 year contract unless they are a star player.

I was just looking at that

I keep telling myself that these contracts over 8 years going to look bad, get better and avg themselves out plus the cap goes up and someone is always going to have to get paid more than the last guy but really shake my head sometimes.

Maybe I'm nit picking but 8x8.5M I think would have been suitable for Nurse.

8 years at 26 seems risky to me.
I’d think it was better if it took him to 32 or so (not 34).

Old mate Lou looking like a genius in comparison

8 years at 27 doesn't take affect until next season.

We say this but as a GM said they just expect the last couple years for the player to go on LTIR.

We care about contracts that look good but teams are just doing what it takes to win cups.

Nurse is a bit better overall than Pelech is but definitely not 2.5M better

Yeah.

Clearly trying to capitalize on McD and Dre’s best years.
I just can’t help but think that guys like Nurse have their stats inflated by playing with the aforementioned.

I don’t think he’s a top Dman.
I’d still love him on Vancouver tho.

At the time Hedman signed his current contract(same age), his cap hit was 10.78% of the teams cap.

Nurse's is 11.35%

Nurse is not even close to being worth that.

Will ppl here back off on JB’s signings after that deal?

Is Nurse really worthy of that?

I think he is good, he's definitely a #1 D. Not Elite or generational #1 but top 30 among NHL D for sure. Someone has got to be paid more than the last guy.

I would rather have Nurse over Jones.

You also get to save 1.5-2% per contract because of No tax state of Florida.

A GM doing a worse signing shouldn't lessen the atrocities of other GMs making bad signings too. It just puts them all in the same stupid group.

Alright so call it completely even. Bump Hedmans up to 11.35%.

Nurse isn't even close to worth that.

Not a fan of the contract, it is a bit much but he plays 25 min a night in all situations and produces. He is also physical and not a defensive liability like QH.

Florida taxes > edmonton taxes and living in Edmonton.

Seems Tampa gets great discounts on most player contracts.

And here the league has everyone fooled that the cap puts every team on an even playing field.
