Yea that was wise by him. He's sneaky good at building a team. I know Elbows says through the draft but really it needs to be done through many different ways. Timing is every thing as well. It irritates me a little about trading draft picks for Jones then being held hostage for an eighth of the salary cap.
I think Boqvist will be a star, but i get why Bowman did it, he doesn't trust himself in drafting dmen, and if i was him and realized i can't draft nhl dmen, i would sign free agent dmen and grow forwards - BetweenTheDots
We can agree to disagree I don't see that happening in the NHL. He's closer to Leddy's trajectory than Keith's. |

Good question. Have to look at the list of unsigned NHLers for a partial answer, I would guess. |

According to Scott Powers from the Athletic, Shalunov has signed a 3-year contract to remain in the KHL with Lokomotiv. His contract has an opt-out clause next season if he wants to go to the NHL.
Powers also shared that Shalunov got a contract offer from another NHL team but it was one he wasn't interested in. The Hawks have interest in Shalunov but simply don't have the cap space or roster spot for him.
Good heavens just cut the cord with Shalunov already. By the time he's able and willing to come over, he'll be close to 30. Invest in younger prospects, please. |

Should have traded his rights to Vegas for MAF. End result would be the same.

Strome, Connolly, Subban and a 4th for Kessel. It might not make the Hawks better but they would be more fun to watch. |

The Hawks’ scouting team has a record of unearthing talent from various leagues in Europe yet they can’t make room for Shalunov. Their message is loud and clear, Shalunov just isn’t that good. I’d be shocked if he plays 1 NHL game, with Chicago or anyone else. |

But technically they aren’t investing anything into him because he isn’t being paid and his rights are “forever”. I guess beatin a dead horse is more to the point. I don’t understand Russians especially since we had panarin and he did so well here. Is it stigma or word of mouth that tilts these guys not to come here like they should.. |
