Good for you. It was also a target in CT, he’s an NHL player it’s not like lebron walking through the town. He ate it up, told me I had a good eye for spotting him

I find hockey players are quite accommodating. I am such a big fan, I'd always take an opportunity to meet any of the Flyers players. I've had nothing but good experiences with the players and alumni.

I really like the relationship between the level of play vs the cost to the AAV of the defense right now. Great bang for the buck.

Top pair (cost 13m AAV)
Provy - Ellis

Second pair (cost ? 9m AAV)
Sanheim- Ristolainen

Third Pair (cost 2.7m AAV)
Yandle- Braun

7th D (cost .75m AAV)
Morin

Playing heavy minutes in AHL
York/Zamula - Clendening

I will say this is a durable crew also. A lot has been over blown on Ellis which he will miss some games from being banged up I’m sure along with Sanheim. But the group has loads of experience along with a couple Ironmen in the line up.

Solid call ups if needed.

I'm not sure why you think a lot has been overblown on Ellis missing games. He has missed a lot of games in his career.

that's relevant, and depending on the type of injury it can be more or less concerning long term

Ellis' broken finger or knuckle or whatever, for example, is not something i'm worried about going forward like Forsberg's recurring issues

I'm really confused how some posters can mention Ryan Ellis' injury history and at the same time feel the need to point out we "overpayed" for Ristolainen.

yeah you should, most are super cool and it is how they make their living, THE FANS. We were at the rink here in SFL and JVR was working out with his coach. It had to be a 2 hours work out. JVR got off the ice and my 10 year old son ran up to him to sign his jersey. jVR slowed down, spoke with my son and spoke with other kids. Adam Oates was there a different day, we saw him in the parking lot and he stopped and took a pic with my son, chatted for 5 minutes. The thought crosses my mind that we are infringing on their time but my 10 year old's excitement showed we were not.

When it comes to the Flyers, I am still an unabashed fanboy and get excited to watch their games. Just who I am I guess. My wife still makes fun of me..in 2012 we went to a game in Boston and got to meet most of the team after the game. At one point, I was waiting behind a bunch of kids to say hi to Danny Briere and get him to sign my jersey.. she's like at least you didn't push the small kids out to the way haha

I tell them I am Canadian and I think they understand that we're all beer swilling hockey nuts up here.

Over blown on his durability. In regards to people feeling like he is in danger of having a career ending injury such as ACL tear or repeated shoulder injuries or concussions. Or that his injuries will contribute to a rapid decline. I said he will miss games. He has missed games. That I don’t dispute. That is a fact. His injuries aren’t ones that you see contribute to a rapid decline.

Yea most hockey guys are really good guys and I’m sure they enjoy being acknowledged at times. Hockey is in a spot where they can probably go to the mall at times and walk through unoticed so I’m sure it feels good at times to get noticed.

That is what I was getting at. He has missed games. That’s a fact. No debate. His style of play results in him getting banged up. Yet, it hasn’t resulted in anything that Inwould be concerned about that would contribute to endangering his career or causing a sharp decline in his play. Which is what the main concern of those who question the trade.

This trade was a great trade as it stands now. This guy moves the needle.

he can't be like that all the time

you're supposed to practice to prepare for in-game situations. In-game situations involve a lot of rushed, sloppy passes

i remember reading an interview with a player about his rookie season practicing with Scott Gomez. He said Gomez was purposely throwing him a lot of bad passes in practice telling him he's gotta practice corralling those pucks in transition

Weird how some around here can Kimmo Timonen and Ryan Ellis in the same breath as a comparison. We’re quick to top pair Ellis knowing he might not see a full season.

Ellis has been a top pair defender almost as soon as he set foot in the NHL. Yes, he is a top pair defender even if he misses a handful of games. I think the comparison of Timonen is that they were both small more mobile top tier defensemen that came here through trades in their later years. Understandable comparison.

Ellis IS a top pairing defensemen who more often than not plays 70+ games if not a full season. His injury history isn't and shouldn't be alarming. You're not a contending team if you don't have the depth to replace any given player on the roster for 10-15 games.

I think it's a very relevant concern and I believe is was a significant factor in why Nashville was willing to trade him.

Ellis has played 70 or more games in an NHL season 4 times in 10 years. He has played one season where he played 82 games. Now to be fair there were some shortened seasons the last two and his rookie year.
