nope...saying this because he will get time skating with best players on this team and in case of Kane, 1 of the best in the league.

Like all prospects he has to progress....asking for 20+ goals isn't unfair IMO. he has shown flashes....hopefully he can put it all together and become a fixture Bowman and the organization can count on AND build around.

You're assuming he plays with Kane. The line of Dach, Dinky and Kane hasn't worked as of yet.

All 3 like to carry the puck. I wonder how Dach, Kubalik and Hagel would do together. Hagel and Kubalik has some good moments together last season.

He was the greatest ever to me and i hated his bruin guts. lol That is just a personal preference. I never understood people who were dismissive of Gretzky. If it was so easy to do what he did, how come no one else did it?

In the last two day, the Bulls have committed 200M in salary. So much for Reinsdorf being cheap.

Because we need him too? Nothing changes he's still a kid. A kid who's missed a lot of playing time the last two years.
- rpeters01

Probably better saying he should put up 40-50pts if he is in the top 6 and healthy. If he doesn't certainly not declaring him a bust. He put up 23 in 64 games his first season so 40-50 pts isn't a big stretch.

Hawks definitely need him to be good this season.

Well at least the Hawks and Bulls should be competitive this winter. Don't think the Bulls have enough for beat the Nets or Buck but it will be interesting. Sixers are in some real trouble.

i think its pretty hard to really compare players of different eras. The new kids say McDavid would have destoryed everyone but really we can't put it to the test. The only test i could see would be to put McDavid in the crappy equpiment that orr and gretz grew up on and lets see Mcdavid skate like he does on old tube skates.

Hull was once clocked a bit over 29MPH on those tube skates. Imagine what he would do with this equipment.

What's the Gordie Howe hat trick "a goal, a penalty, a fight?" He would have destroyed all these guys. So would Bobby Hull.

Thats nuts!. can you imagine if those guys would have actually had the fitness and training regiment that they have now a days. Imagine Hull and Howe in the gym like the guys today now that would be down right scary.

There is no need for any number to be retired by any team ever. It’s a silly tradition. Just give him #9 and be done with it.

What I find humorous about this #99 jersey discussion:

When the kid was playing hockey in Brantford as a very young boy, he played on 3 or 4 teams of different ages and old man Walter would drive him around the local area and rinks so Wayne could play as many games as possible. Sometimes he would only get there for the 3rd period of a game and the coach would immediately throw him on the ice for most of the period. Usually he scored enough goals in a period to reverse a deficit or make sure his team won easily.

They might not admit it now, but hockey parents around Brantford resented the hell out of Gretzky because of his dominance. Whatever team he was on always won. Their resentment was a main reason he moved on to play in the Toronto MTHL at a very young age.

Ovechkin might break Gretzky's NHL goal record but nobody is breaking his record of 378 goals in a year as a novice.

And I don't think Wayne even cares if his # is retired. And if there is only one of his jerseys that should be retired it is the Oiler one when he and that team was at the peak of their game. Who cares about his Kings, Blues or Rangers jerseys, those teams won squat.

- RickJ

And yet Messier won twice w/o Gretzky, however Gretzky did not win w/o Messier. Look, great player and I have a lot of respect for him, and if you want to win scoring titles, Gretzky is your man, want to win a cup, Messier is your guy. I saw Gretzky play about a dozen times, and let me tell you what else he was great at, cherry picking. I’m not taking anything away from him, but no doubt in my mind that Orr was the GOAT.

Their gyms were working the farms. Both of them looked like beast without shirts. Howe was farmboy strong.

Seems you are correct. He worked construction with his Dad before leaving to pursue hockey. Seems he made the right decision.

I'm bet just yet on some veteran Blackhawk forwards wearing other jerseys opening night. But we have heard the directive to get younger. There is a growing list of forwards, some preparing at Rockford, whom i expect will move in to the lineup at the expense of veterans both during the season and afterwards. Toews uncertain date to return is one reason Connelly sticks around for a while. Caroentar, though, is a cheaper contract so who whom long he sticks around. Ultimately though cutting veteran salaries opens more salary cap for another free agent. Toews and the new Tsmoa guy are not young colts. Either Bowman tries to draft a center real early in riundcone or signs/trades fir a younger center . Expect Toews and the Tampa guy is primarily just this one season, then additional center help should be added.

Speaking of the differences in training and conditioning between the Hull/Howe days and today, Zadorov described how Nathan McKinnon stays at the top of his game (I've heard similar in interviews with Kane about specialists he employs):
