I just cannot believe any team of people would put up the pretense of such a serious injury if it weren't absolutely true. If Jack eichel suddenly doesn't need one of the two surgeries after his trade from Buffalo his reputation his agents reputation his doctors reputation not to mention his medical license would all suffer irreparable damage in my opinion.
- lacaprup

Harrington wrote he needs a procedure and the team agrees, but they disagree on what procedure to have.

That being said why is he out there skating?

Because he's making a poor choice like many hundreds of millions of people have done before him.

If it turns out he's out there skating because he's not as injured as his team has claimed, I'd hate him more than I already do as a player.

Here's the thing about human rights, they can't be bargained away whether your name is on a piece of paper or not. I'm not disputing the Buffalo Sabres legal position, I'm saying jack eichel is not going to have a surgery he doesn't want and he can't be forced into it. He's going to have the medical procedure he wants at some point and the Sabres have no way to prevent it
- lacaprup

Yes they absolutely can. Don’t believe me? Ask any soldier/sailor or Marine.

Unless he files for arbitration and wins, his only option is what the Sabres want(unless he’s traded).

He signed away his right when he singed an 8yr $80 million dollar deal.

But Jack is out there playing pick up hockey?

I mean it is different than an actual NHL game, but a trip into the boards can cause a lot of damage

- Stripes77

I've seen this a lot. I kinda feel like he's talked enough to medical professionals to know what can be done and what can't. Would you risk 50M to just have a skate with the boys. I doubt they're going 100%, and his medical team probably said something along the lines of you can't really make it worse, it just might be really uncomfortable. TBH, none of us are in any of the medical rooms, and are purely speculative at this point.

Any United States soldier sailor Airman or Marine is covered under Geneva Convention, as I know I was for the five years I was active duty. That is not to say, of course, you do not voluntarily agree to a serious abridgment of your freedom when you join any military service

The only thing that is preventing Jack from getting the surgery is his contract. If he goes and gets it, he voids the contract, but I believe there is a clause in the CBA that mentions the Sabres would hold his rights for the length of the original contract he voided

Getting surgery of his choice is his right. The Sabres have ever right to terminate his contract if he does and something goes amiss. No one is forcibly stopping him from entering into a surgical room of his choice, getting surgery, except himself and his agent who risk losing millions. There's no human right being infringed. Full stop there.

Correct. But a fundamental human right is tge right to express your opinion m, you give that up in service and fall under the UCMJ. So yes, Eichel signed away the right to pick his treatment. When you enter collective bargaining you lose individual rights.

I just don't get how Eichel has zero leverage. Either he "rots" and you get literally nothing for him, or he plays and gives 0 effort, is a lockerroom cancer, and ruins the young core for the new rebuild in Buffalo.

Like...what leverage does Buffalo have? Your options are either get nothing by not trading him or have the rebuild set back another half a decade until his contract expires? I don't get how that's leverage for Buffalo?

Accidents happen all the time in pick up games.

An accidental trip, fall, etc….

It’s a poorly calculated risk especially with the statement his agents sent out. It’s a bad look a very bad look.

Can you imagine, the Sabre win the lottery while not being a last place team, draft Wright and the Sabres end up having Eichel come back at 100% and he plays.

Obviously is NOT going to happen but the top 3 centers would be Eichel Wright and Cozens...

Still miss the playoffs lol

This needs to stop

It is in the CBA, it is in his contract which he knowingly signed.

There is no basic human rights violation.

He has his right to a second opinion, he went that route. He can file for medical arbitration, but hasn't done so.

- Stripes77

LOL yes. the "human rights" argument is even weirder than the old "his body his rights" trope. You would think the Sabres have him tied in a basement sweatshop doing 16 hour workdays for Oregon Trail bare bones rations of gruel.

He doesnt HAVE to get any surgery. He can go on LTIR for the next 5 years and collect his 50 million dollars for his hockey related injury. He CAN NOT however, get whatever surgery he wants, without violating the contract he signed and the CBA his union collectively bargained in good faith. Lol there is no rights violations, he literally doesnt have the right to get his preferred surgery AND keep his contract. This is about money, not human rights!!

Kratzov hasn't scored over a .5 ppg in any league over the MHL. He is considered an "untouchable" by half of the NYR fanbase. I can't remember if you specifically said so or not. If you didn't know what the MHL was without looking it up, you are not alone. That is why you are getting a cantankerous reception here. Don't go the complete other way and offer fox and Laf. Cuz that's also dumb. You say injury and disgruntled bring down price. Ok, not to Kratzov's level as the main piece. Keeping him in the East raises that price a little as well. Or we could just admit that NYR probably isn't going to trade for him.
- SDSabre

For some perspective - I believe that the numbers Kravtsov has put up in the KHL at his age are only rivaled by Tarasenko, Kuznetsov, and Kaprisov when they were playing in the KHL at the same age.

Also, the trade offer is not Kravstov for Eichel straight up.

Kravstov is one piece of a 4 or 5 item package, which could include one-two 1st round picks, as well as two NHL ready young players who have good ceilings.

Of course an accident can happen. An accident can happen taking a poop. See: Ennis, Tyler. He runs the risk of making it worse. My point is that he's probably asked about the risks of doing it with a doc he trusts, and they say you probably won't hurt it worse. We aren't in the room, surgery may be required to play in the NHL at 95% of what he can do. But a little morning skate with the boys, he could possibly never have to have surgery.

It looks bad.

Proper handlers would advise him not to do it.

If I was the Sabres, I’d be furious.

So, tell me why that hasnt happened yet? Why isnt he getting "his surgery of choice"?

HE signed his right to make this decision away, and there are legal ramifications that obviously he cannot afford.
