I severely doubt Couturier "senses" that. Players hire agent's for such things. The Flyers know what it will take in terms of cap space to keep Coots. They have time to make the space. I don't see the cap being an issue at all.

I disagree. He would be blind to not sense it

I heard half the league was in on Nate Thompson. Can't believe they got him.

Great point, thanks for the insider info.

From last night from MJL regarding why Preds traded Ellis”

“I'm trying to figure out why Nashville made the deal. Doesn't appear that they're in rebuild. Not a cap crunch. Why did they trade Ellis. A RH top pairing all situations D man.”

I’m responding:
I read somewhere during the trade deadline when Ellis was hurt (knuckle) that they were interested in moving him. Some media speculated that the depth of the Preds defense and the up coming talent was a factor in them feeling they can move Ellis. Saw some comments saying that he was holding talent back. Much of what we hear on this forum about veterans blocking spots.

I think it is a combination of he is 30 with a long contract that concerns them when they have a young RHD with top pair talent. They utilized their depth to open up more flexibility to add to their forward group.

🙄. Maybe 🤔

Alright, should be some solid hockey talk as we are in August meaning training camp isnt that far away... Lets GO Flyers!!!!

TL;DR of this thread: Everything is terrible. (never change Flyersbuzz)

I think the D group is better on paper and should be substantially better on ice so I think Fletch gets a solid grade on that.

Many young goalies have struggled early in their pro career but I think Hart needs to really have a solid season this year to balance things out. Im neither overly excited or overly negative on the Jones signing at this point.

The offense Im not sold on in any way right now.

No, they arent -- they are linked -- if ghost is not moved there is no cap space to take on rr
- corduroy

not at all, they had the ghost trade all lined up when the took on ellis contract. So if you want to group them, group it with ellis. But they really shouldnt be linked at all. You are just trying to throw shade on it. well done sir

whats wrong with meyers, why would we move him. whats wrong with jake, why would we move him, whats wrong with atkison, why would columbus move him

sometimes its just getting different mix of players, and nashville needs a center, hoping glass will turn into something

what dont you like with the Offense? you think last year wasnt a one off, and theyll play like that again? i think we are in good shape. Atkison and Allison hopefully are the shooters we have been waiitng for.

Wrong. He can walk away very easily.
- hello it's me 2050

Yes, he can but Risto holds the better hand if he plays well.
CF gave up a decent amount and Risto and his agent knows that Cf will lot want to have given up a first for a rental.
My hope would be is that Risto has a respectable season and likes it here and a fair deal is reached on both ends.

What they gave up is already a sunk cost. It's done. No need to dwell on it.

You evaluate going forward not what you gave up in the past to justify resigning him.

Right now I think the order of the division will be:

1. Islanders
2. Flyers
3. Carolina
4. Capitals
5. Penguins
6. Rangers
7. Devils
8. Columbus

I just don't think the Penguins are that good, and I think the Caps are getting older and have serious holes on defense. I think as the year goes on, it will be the Islanders, Flyers and Hurricanes battling it out for the top spot.

- jd250

Same thing has been said about the Pens and Caps for years now but they are always there at the end. This division is incredibly strong. Not sure about Carolina with their goaltending. Rangers are clearly on the uptrend and are strong in all 3 areas of the game. Devils will be drastically improved and Isles will be strong. I can see the Flyers anywhere from 4th to 7th depending on HART

What I dont like about the offense is we have little speed. They have to get their PP working in a big way to compensate

That’s my thoughts on Risto. I wouldn’t overpay him if he plays well enough to warrant an extension here.
To deny that Risto and his agent hold a better negotiating hand is disingenuous.
CF will not want to lose Risto after making the trade he did so an overpayment is likely and even possibly a NTC.
If I was CF I would only give only partial NTC for say half the contract and Risto gets less money.
It’s my opinion that if I was a GM that players would have to buy a NTC.
A little less is salary for more stability.
That may not be realistic but that would be my stance.

That I can agree with.

I don't see why he would get an NTC.

Flyers only have 2, one signed by Fletch. Its not like they give them out like candy.

Carolina upgraded their goaltending if anything. Carolina and islanders should be solid. Like I said earlier, always tough to write off Pitt or Washington’s but I think Pitt is ending the road here. Malkin is always seem to be banged up or injured , their goaltending is questionable, and the roster has no depth.

He has signed 1 big free agent contract. That contract has a partial NTC I believe. Has he signed any other free agents to long term deals that require a NTC.

He gave one to Yandel but i get why and only 1 year. No harm really.

He didn't give one to Provorov, Laughton or Konecny.

There seems to be an impression in here by some that he, or the organization, gives them out like candy. Its obviously not the case.

And really, does the Yandle one even count? Does anyone think he will refuse a late season trade to a contender if the Flyers are out of it?

On a serious note. I’d say there’s a good 9 teams that would /could be looking for a 1c. At least a few of those would certainly entertain trading assets for coots and give him extension

I believe Carolina's goaltending will be better with the additions of Anderson and Raanta which is why I have them so high. The Caps will be a playoff team, but I have Zero respect for Pittsburgh at this point and believe this is the year they fall out of the playoffs, which suits Hextall fine since then he gets higher draft picks. I like Galant as a head coach, though he seems to wear out his welcome quickly, but I think the Rangers are in transition this year. Next year I think they will more seriously challenge for the playoff. New Jersey is still an empty shell IMO, I think they are building something there but it will take time. I like the Flyers in the top 3.

Lets play the what if game.

If ex selke tells the Flyers he is testing free agency no matter what. Come the trade deadline the Flyers are in the 8th playoff spot. Several teams a few points apart between 7-11.

What do the Flyers do?

Thought you were talking about free agents? All players are diff some want one others do not care.

Why wouldn't Yandle count? As I said that isn't a big deal.

I was reading an article grading the the Flyers 3 big trades this off season. Here are my grades for these trades. What say you all?

1. Ellis for Myers, Patrick: A
2. Risto - 2021 1st round pick, 2023 2nd round pick, Robert Hagg: B-
3. Atkinson for Voracek: A+
