Nice work here, sir........ I think Kubalik is really underrated and your list touches on that. Nice per 60 numbers but even better when given some context.

In his two yrs he's had 48% zone start, 14:22 TOI and 1:57 PP his first yr 15:31 and 2:25 PP last yr. Those are 3rd line and 2nd PP minutes. He had a 56 point pace both yrs and last yr fired 2.8 shots per game. ....... Last yr his most common linemates were Kampf and Hagel 1:27:58 followed by Strome and Kurashev 80:06 followed by Vinnie and Kurashev 43:11.

Even middle 6 minutes with a small bump in zone starts the fancies and eye test say this guy is at least a 60+ point player. His 2.6 and 2.8 points per 60, 56 point pace the last 2 yrs with 3rd line mates, 48% zone starts, never averaging 16:00 are impressive. Add he was a +2 and -3 on bad clubs his 2 yrs here he's a guy you want on the roster at a still young 25 yrs old.

I’m a big fan, I’d like to see him extended sooner rather than later before the price goes up.

in fairness can you throw out your line combos?
- SteveRain

i don't do line combos.

But go ahead and put together 4 lines that can get between 200 and 220 goals.

Its not easy and its not impossible but a whole lot of things have to go right to get there.

They aren't going to get many goals from the back end based on previous history.

Just put yours out there.

Centers- Toews, Dach, Borgstrom/Kurashev and Johnson

RW Kane, Connelly, Gaudette/Nylander and pick a guy

here you go

12=40
88=30
8=30....contract year (rfa), amazing how money can motivate a player
19=20
77=20
T Johnson=15
77=20...see kubalik
38=15
23=15...see kubalik
Nylander=15
Khaira=5+
Gaudette=5+
Borgstrom=5+

I have zero contributions from Strome, Carpenter, Connolly...2 of the 3 have at least proven they can somewhat score in the NHL so I am leaving about 20 goals+ on the table between Connolly and Strome.

Defense

S Jones=10
Murphy=5..contract year
Galynuk=5....see kubalik
McCabe=5
Stillman=1
Mitchell/Beaudin=Mitchell was on pace for 6 goals over 82 games, and Beaudin was on pace for 8.....so between them....at least 5.

Nylander either produces or he's gone. Hell he could be gone by the season beginning and I think Connolly and/or Strome can hit 15 in his place.

In an internal memo, Blackhawks CEO Danny Wirtz says the Blackhawks will "share results (of the Jenner & Block internal review) with you, our partners and our fans and will promptly implement changes to address the findings and shortcomings of our organization."

Danny Wirtz: "I can assure you that we are using this process to engage in the self-reflection necessary to better our organization and ensure that our workplace is safe and inclusive. And while we await the results, we will continue a process of self evaluation."

good catch......

I think they will.....DeHaan wont be here 1 way or the other. Bowman will take whatever he can get for him at this point. Same likely goes for at least Strome OR Connolly OR Carpenter.

STill some trades to happen. Nylander stays because he's the cheapest out of the 4 Fs.

Big year for a lot of players to start showing some growth, especially at F, or else you start moving on from them.

I think de Haan ends up being here. Otherwise you are back to having half the D pretty inexperienced. I guess if de Haan is moved, a FA could be signed but looking at the list doesn't fill one with excitement. Ryan Murray is probably the best of the lot and he is an injury risk.

Gaudette and Nylander are on show me deals.

IF some players reach close to their potential, maybe they will find scoring. Its a lot of IFs to me.

My guess if guys who are waiver exempt will be sent down at the start of the season. This team is put together to make a run at the playoffs in a pretty weak Western Conference as of right now.

I don't disagree on the IFs I just see more upside I guess than most with this roster.

Think you'll see some D men maybe engage more in the offensive zone with Fleury in net. See some Fs take a little more chances.

2 me....the top 2 center men on this team are rightfully questioned.....Dach, is he a top 6 player or is he a top 9 player? He needs to start using size and start staying close to the blue paint IMO.....Toews, I lean towards he's back based on HIS video release, and what does that Toews look like? IMO....I think Johnson and Kubalik will be his wingers. Toews needs help on his wings to produce.

Hagel and Kurashev to me I feel very good about. both have shown flashes of skill, and now it's just a matter of consistency.

I'll be ALL over Dach's ass if he can't pot 20 skating between DeBrincat and kane. People want to moan about the Seth Jones trade and the picks.....look at the guys Bowman passed on to select Dach...early still, but guys like Caufield look very good right now, and yes I get that they had a similar player in DeBrincat...but that's why I am always for BEST AVAILABLE....

Dach won’t get 20 goals, I’d say 10, tops. He’ll likely be injured at some point this season, plus he’s a pass-first centre.

At this point, I will be thrilled without the 5 minutes stretches that turn into a shooting gallery against the Hawks.

From the new Ottawa Senators HB blog.
Two other possible and very affordable targets at RW are Brett Connolly of the Chicago Blackhawks and Conor Sheary of the Washington Capitals. Both teams are loaded at RW and are either over the cap and close to exceeding the cap. Connolly has 2 years left on his deal paying 3.5 million per year. While Sheary has 2 years left at 1.5 million per season. These 2 players make the most sense as they won’t command as much in return for a trade plus are on very affordable deals.

From his keyboard to God's ears.

Actually I would not mind Connolly sticking around. He could play bottom 6 and occasionally slide up to the top six in a pinch. But we need the cap space.

It’s been two years since the draft, Dach was hurt most of this past season but the season before had an OK regular season and was one of the best Blackhawks in the playoffs. Caufield had a few regular season game and a good playoff run and based on that small sample you’ve already decided who the better player is? You missed your calling Steve, you should be an NHL scout or GM.

For the record I have no idea who will prove to be the better player? And in a perfect world Dach would never have jumped right into the NHL. He should have played in the WHL then progressed to Rockford to prove he was ready for the NHL.

Sometimes, mere cap space can be turned into a Vezina Trophy winning goalie!
