Waaaay too much! - TommyGTrain
I get not wanting to do that for several reasons. There's just no real goalposts to compare a center that good, that young getting traded. Mika, was nowhere near as "good" as Eichel was at a comparable age, and he cost a borderline star player.
What you'd hope for is that the team is good with Eichel, and those draft picks are in the late 20s (or better yet the 30s!) and that they become big nothing burgers.

For me, the kicker is Miller, not the two firsts.
People want to trade him because Robertson is his replacement. How about both Miller and Robertson on the same team? Isn’t that better?
Nemeth was signed for three years. I bet Robertson spends two years in Hartford and in that third year Robertson and Nemeth split time. Nemeth comes off the books, Robertson steps in full time. Boom.

We need to have this mindset with all our young assets. People want to see Schneider this year, why? Being able to keep people on ELC's and staggering when we bring the youth in is what is going to keep this window we have open the longest.
One of the reason Reilly Smith's name is all over the rumor mill is because Gerard Gallant loves him." —

Here is an analogy proving how silly all of this attention for Eichel really is:
You are out shopping for a home to purchase. You find a great house and make an offer.
The homeowner says: Just want to let you know, there is a large crack in the foundation of the house. The local building inspector says there are 2 very different approaches to repairing the foundation, but we are unsure which one to perform at this time. Its entirely possible that the house will be condemned and you won't be able to live in it if the foundation repair fails.
So we are going to give you a slight discount on the purchase price if you buy now and before you attempt the repair. But the good news is --- if you can't fix it, you won't be fully responsible for the $10 million annual taxes due for the next 5 years.
Now what person in their right mind even MAKES AN OFFER?
This is the Jack Eichel saga.....

Braden Schneider isn't even 20 years old yet and played 24 hockey games last year

Haha the sabres thread says "easy pass" on that package.
It's like they think Eichel's value is him coming off a 40 goal, 100 point season, 100% fully healthy, and without any public circus that is essentially forcing the Sabres to either pay him $10 mil to sit in the press box or trade him for the best package available by a certain deadline.

I was thinking Strome for Smith in some way - jimbro83
If we get Eichel and trade a center, I want it to be Chytil and not Strome. I do think Strome is the perfect 3C on this team in this scenario: he already has a proven chemistry and production with your best players. He's also signed for only 1 year. You either see if he takes a discount to continue playing here, or you cut ties with him and hope by that time that Barron is ready to assume that role.
an excellent d-prospect, a young second-pairing defenseman and two firsts which will probably end up in the high-teens at best is waaaaaayyy too much for a no. 1 center?

I think a trade like Strome for Reilly Smith can happen without Eichel happenng
If Gallant loves Smith that much, both of these players have 1 year left until they are UFA's, it makes sense, and gives Vegas a little bit more cap space and they need all they can get

Its a reasonable offer ( perhaps even light ) ---- if he was 100% healthy, which he is NOT!
Bc he’s 5’10 and we’re not trading Fox. The stats speak for themselves, Fox is 5’11 Nils is 5’10, out of the last 21 Stanley Cup winners only 1 has had 2 defenseman under 6’. It’s not a recipe for success. - nyrangers9479
What if in 2008 Detroit said you know what, no European captain has ever won the Stanley Cup, we need to trade/remove the captaincy from Lidstrom? Or in 2018 in the Capitals said that no Russian captain has ever won the Cup so lets do the same with Ovechkin. Or what if the Penguins said that a rookie goalie hadn't won the cup since Cam Ward in 2006 so let's keep playing Fleury over Matt Murray.
I'm not saying Nils is Lidstrom or Ovechkin, my point is that stats like that are meant to be broken and we should probably wait to see what kind of player Nils is before shipping him off because he's 2 inches too short. Also, Nils is listed in a lot of places at 5' 11". I see him listed some places at 5' 10" too also but I have a feeling if you were making an argument to keep him you'd be using the 5' 11" figure.

And Fox (and Panarin) avoid taking a direct checks better than anyone I see in the league. Wear down seems unlikely

Height is a physical attribute though, that probably does have an impact to some degree. A bit different than the birthplace of a captain or age of a goalie.
I just can’t get past the fact that height of the defense is an incomplete lens. It’s a valid point, but not one to base roster decisions on.
In this scenario, if our hulking bottom 6 becomes one of the best forechecking teams in the league, I want an offensive dynamo like Nils on the blue line to snipe some goals when he gets dished the puck. Not a tall guy who may or may not be fit for the “rough style of the playoffs”.
