A player who twice showed character deficiets: celebrating during a loss a goal and getting caught trashing his coach on camera was signed for term and a huge cap hit. That's insane.

Hiring Hynes when better options were available was a blessing to Blues fans.

At some point Poille just lost touch. From Peter's underlining coaching stats showing his teams were underperforming to trying to out think the world and going with Hynes. There's aspects to like about Hynes but he's coaching like a younger version of Andy Murray. That stuff's great in college when your best players don't tend to stay for two seasons. This is the NHL though. Unless your team is devoid of enough top end talent then you're hamstringing that talent.

Hall also loved Krueger but that doesn't make Krueger a successful NHL coach. Hall had a year, has great talents but he seems reliant on quality of teammates vs players like Crosby or MacKinnon who will create and drive play whether or not they have great teammates. But when they do their dominance becomes more pronounced.

A sign of a good coach is their ability to flex their system to the talent available. Hynes is forcing a square into a circle. Now maybe the roster is more like a square. The defebse the Preds had should have been the focal point of their transition and offensive game. Now I don't think you can do that with only one incredible skating Dman, bc teams will now be able to isolate Jossi.
