I dont think the Sabres have any interest in retaining money on Eichel. Imagine how that looks when the Pegulas are paying him to win the cup for someone else. - Hank Balling
Yes, very good point. Bad look for sure.
But, if the upgrade is getting laferierre or kappo vs. Very little around the league.....
Not taking back a bad contract is the same as retaining salary. Bottom line.
And you have players that want to be in buffalo ☝️
What's nice about this rebuild is were going to basically have a expansion team fresh start on the books minus cody and erhoff.
Skimmer , eichel and okposo ( gone in 2 years)

Bad look , smart business - Boss34
I agree with you here. But let’s not kid ourselves, if we retained something like 50% on eichel’s contract not only would we be the laughing stock of the league (again), it would also be a poor business decision.
I could see retaining a small amount like 1-2 million if that was the difference between getting laf, but anyone suggesting 50% on a 5 contract is out of their mind. They would be getting a top 10 center in the league, being paid at $5 million.

Interesting that the KBC cost $127m to build. According to the internet's handy dandy inflation calculator, that's $233m in today's money.
For $400m, I'd assume they want to strip it to the studs (cinderblocks).
Granted I understand this is just a starting point in negotiations - Hank Balling
Who knows how long the shortage of various building supplies will last, but merely adjusting inflation is vastly underestimating the true current cost environment.
Probably more like north of $300m.
Your general point still stands that $400m gets a very nice arena ... and possibly upgrades to the surrounding area. Or maybe lines the pocket to enhance the lifestyle.
They were smart to wait to ask until the Bills were finally good again.
"Nice Bills you have there. It would be a shame if something happened to them..." - Hank Balling
"The team has made no overt threats, sources say, to leave Buffalo if it doesn’t get the full funding request, but it has made clear to government negotiators that there are other cities elsewhere that desire an NFL franchise and would pay handsomely for it."

I think we agree , just need to work out the numbers.
Your at 1-2 I'm at 3-4 million retained.
1-2 you get kakko
3-4 you get laferierre
Regardless the Sabres need to take on a cap dump or retain salary to make any trade work.

Aside from the kracken.... - Boss34
Good post!!
I would much rather take on a salary dump than retain but that’s just me. I think it’s more principle (optics) than anything. If 3 million retained gets it done, I might bite

The fact that there is a risk that he is damaged goods is precisely while you are not getting all our blue chip prospects/Laf. - rangerdanger94
