Imagine what he could fetch at the trade deadline when you ship him to a contender?

I mean we met with him, so we are doing the due diligence. People are holding Nick Ritchie up like he's some type of golden God. He's decent. His career high 15 goals could probably be 20. He is the type of player that we are lacking so he would be nice to have, but he does not play 2nd or 1st line minutes so far. Sometimes the 3rd liner you get is just a 3rd liner - like Kris Versteeg.
- Monkeypunk

Well that's good news.

I wouldn't say he's a God by any stretch but this team has desperately lacked a power forward for so long that you gotta jump on it if possible just based on the potential for growth.

He's 24, he doesn't have many steps to take to be a 2nd liner. And they're obviously not coming from to many other places. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The leafs have Ondrej Kase and Michael Bunting on low cap hit deals and I love both these players quite a bit!

However, I hope Kase can stay healthy a full 82 or 56 what ever we play next year to really develop him into a constant threat on offense either dishing the puck off or putting it in the net him self.

Bunting will probably slot in on a 3rd line bring a new energy and responsible play to that line with Kerfoot. I will be curious to see if he will experimented with on the top line in training camp to see if he is a replacement for Hyman, but I think he needs to add more bulk for that top line role.

What if… Ritchie doesn’t want to sign with the Leafs?
- Steven_Seagull

Well, he did meet with them last night.

Edit: I'm behind in the conversation and a few beers deep. Disregard?

New goal song should be Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long.” Implying the Leafs will be scoring “All Night Long.”

As I had said - I'd like him. Based on his style and the team's lack of physicality, he'd likely be a rockstar here - but I just think we should temper expectations. I'd totally be down with giving him a shot in the top-6 obviously, but we see from decent guys that the top-6 is faster paced and requires quick processing and decision making. Guys like Engvall and Mikheyev haven't done that well when elevated in the lineup and they're fast and relatively cerebral in their games.

@APetrielli
about lines:

Willy - AM - Kase
(Ritchie) - JT - Marner
Bunting - Kerf - Spezz
Engvall - Kampf - Mikheyev

Kase & Bunting are "ifs," no Simmonds above, Ritchie penciled in but can see the potential with a good top 6, a sheltered scoring L3, good checking L4

Don’t hate that lineup. Maybe trade one of Engvall/Mikheyev and have Simmonds as 4RW.

I agree but I don't think the top six is completely reliant on maintaining that speed throughout, I mean even Thornton had a little stretch where he was damn good and he was the slowest nhler I've ever seen in my life.

Guys like mikheyev and Engvall have decent qualities but lack a game changing skill. A guy like Ritchie can change a game with his body alone.

To me it's one of those things where it's been missing forever and everyone says it's the problem, no we will never know if that has merit until they get it. Do it now, stop wasting time. Heavy ass power forward, check that box. At that point a guy like ritchie has got to be real appealing... He's younger and cheaper than a true power forward is gonna be and he has a ceiling as high as any to get there.

Do it. 🤣

I’d like to sign Ritchie but it wouldn’t surprise me if he sucks. We’ve been making fun of him since he came into the league and he has one ok season and now we want him.

He’s had more than one decent season.

His points/82 game pace per season (not including his first half season)

30 (15 goals)
29 (11 goals)
42 (12 goals)
36 (15 goals)
38 (22 goals)

He’s a fine middle-6 power forward. We make fun of him because some (most notably Cherry) wanted him over Nylander simply because he’s a big Ontario boy.

I'd take any gritty forward who ain't scared to muck it up if it means we can see less Simmonds. I still think Dubas should have walked away from him, league minimum or not he's nothing compared to what he used to be and should not be a nhl regular at this point. He had a miracle start to the season last year and Dubas is sucking air hoping that he will do it again. He should have spent that 900K on a younger version of Simmonds.
