9 of his 26 points came on the PP and had 10 ES goals in 56 games. That's pretty solid for a 3rd line winger. In a full season you're looking probably another 5 ES goals. At .46PPG over the course of a regular season that's about 37 points. I'd say $2.5M for two years is a pretty fair.
You point out his PP prowess, well that's an area the Pens could certainly use some help. I'm not saying this is a huge miss by Hextall or anything. Yes, I think it would have been a solid signing given their cap space, but overall I think this is probably one of the best or at least more accurate contracts of this off-season. - Rinosaur
You're right there. The first day of free agency is where most GMs make their most stupid moves of the year. Yeah, for every Gonchar contract the Pens signed they also get JJ and Matt Hunwick. |

Was the Gonchar signing a great contract? I remember people female dogin about it and he was always a candidate to get moved to “free up more cap” |

I think it was a fair Contract. $5.5M maybe? Definitely not little money. |

I don't know. He's continuing to trend upwards in terms of production, he's only 25 and with all the other loony signings and trades, only two years at $2.5M is a good contract IMO. IMO he's towards being a Coleman-type. - Rinosaur
Uhh no. He has to be severely sheltered and takes too many penalties. Nothing like Coleman. |

It was something like that. He did have a bad first year and the team was a disappointment as well. Fans seemed to take their frustrations out on him. But after that he was solid and big factor in the 2009 Cup!
Zybenek Michalek. Another horrible UFA signing! |

I think the cap was like 38 million back then. People hated it

Hextal is doing the same thing jr did by wasting vuluable cap space on marginal/vanilla players ie, erod, simon, etc...call ups from wbs at least provide some energy for a few games... - PENS1989
Not totally disagreeing with you, but if Rodrigues is the worst contract then Hextall is doing fine with what he has to work with. I have zero patience with Simon, but it's two way so at least in theory he can waived when Sullivan doesn't have him in the line up.
To reiterate, we have five contract spots available, two or three will be saved for PTO's at the start of camp. Our scouting department has done a nice job of picking up good players here. Last season we had two, Gaudreau and Ceci.
Your probably looking at the training cap roster, minus PTO's. We certainly aren't looking at our playoff roster.

Include Jarry for them and Rakkell for us and have a deal as long as no first round pick involved. |

I wouldn't be as upset if he bet on himself to win every night, but the allegations of him betting and possibly tanking is pretty bad. |

Anna Kane wrote on Instagram: "How does the NHL let a compulsive gambling addict still play when he's obviously throwing games to win money? Hmm maybe someone needs to address this."
She added: "Can someone ask (Commissioner) Gary Bettman how they let a player gamble on his own games? Bet and win with bookies on his own games?"
In a separate post, Anna Kane accused her husband of spending lavishly partying in Europe while asking her to sell her wedding ring to survive and wrote about not being able to afford baby formula for their child.
Anna is a helpful wifey. |

Eichel for Crosby straight up so we can flip him at the TDL? I'm totally not being facetious........ - Pingleheimer
I'll give you credit... you are probably the first fan here to propose a trade offer for Crosby for the sole purpose of flipping him at the deadline. |
