Saying I would rather have Reaves than ERod isn't really a pro Reaves statement. For the record, I had no desire for us to ever trade for Reaves but I also had no desire for us to just fill out the roster with a bunch of 4th liners/fringe 3rd liners. - MacPatty
Just like the Jagr/Kovalev/Lang/Straka/Morozov days. |

Completely forgot Rob Brown came back to the Pens like 10 years after his one 115 point season lol |

VGK fans are really a painful bunch. All my friends that are Ranger fans are annoyed at the Reaves trade while all the VGK are crying about it thinking their team is being ruined. When I try to explain to them he's a terrible hockey player they say, "You don't know. You haven't followed them from the start." To me reply, "You guys still don't understand what icing is." |

I know Reaves isn’t the most skilled guy but I think he’d have made a difference vs the islanders. Probably risto or Zadorov too for that matter. The isles would be in the crease without a pen in 5’ from them.
That being said those 2 or 3 on the team would have then been smoked by Boston and Tampa. But I mean even winning one round would be a win right now. |

The only thing that would have made a difference in the NYI series was goaltending.

Pens need more depth scoring so getting worse depth is definitely not a solution. |

I think In that one particular series vs a heavy isles team and a 4th line just running over people those players would help. Reaves would not be prevented from getting to the crease. Risto or Zadorov would probably occupy and cheap shot anyone in Jarry’s crease. I think that would have had an impact on that series.
Over the course of an 82 game season or any other team in the playoffs. Yeah you’re right. |

For the first time in years our blue line was not the problem in the playoffs. We won the high danger scoring chances battle, which is a pretty big accomplishment against the Islanders. We already suppressed and generated quality chances at a good enough level. All scrub sticks like Ristolainen and Zadorov would have done is push the the suppression/generation pendulum back into the Islanders' favor by neutering even strength offense and in Ristolainen's case also playing garbage ass defense.
Zadarov is actually good defensively and has a point on some teams that are built a certain way, but for the Pens, the offensive trade off of having him on the ice just isn't worth it. Ristolainen is absolute garbage and is good at absolutely nothing. Both make us match up worse against the Islanders. |

What's amazing to me about the Rangers is they receive a 2nd for Buch and give a 3rd for Reaves. I was trying to give some benefit of the doubt to larger plans for NYR, but it's clear that was a mistake. |

Well Feds, Kevin Allen's ridiculously early predictions has the Pens finishing seventh, only ahead of Columbus. You agree, I guess? |

If the lineup isn't much different than it is now and Geno is out a month or two, I think the risk of missing the playoffs is very real.

The only way the lineup is a lot different is that other teams clean up JR's mess: trading for Zucker and Pettersson. Both are decent but not worth a combined $9.5 million cap hit. |

FWIW Kevin Allen was a real hockey writer for a real publication unlike 99.5% of the jabronis who "write" for this site. |

I don’t mind Ristolainen going out of his way to make big hits and his border line dirty play. His name will be brought up continuously when the Pens play the Flyers this year. He will basically have free reign to run around and do whatever he wants. Crosby night fight him because he did something to Rust or Guentzel. |
