From what has been reported I don't think he complained about where he played. I think he complained or had issues with HOW he was asked to play.
- Rinosaur

I'm pretty sure he insisted on playing with Malkin after the 2nd cup. Didn't want relegated to 3rd line any longer. However, he never whined publicly about it and didn't let his role effect his on ice performance.

Because they made the team worse for the sake of “toughness”?

Team will have a better record next year. Past 3 years is clearly wasn’t working

If there’s one player that changes the landscape of a game by being a physical presence it’s Ryan Reaves. Would gladly pay him over the scrubs Hextall is signing. I can imagine it sucks hearing his footsteps as a defenseman.

I would have loved to have him back for the 3rd or 4th line. I feel like he was always fun to watch

Crosby would praise reaves presence on the ice when he was interviewed by madden. He said it made others feel an inch or two taller and a few pounds heavier. Thats any physical sport when you have the biggest and toughest playpeer on your team it gives you a Little extra intangible. Its the same as walking in the bar with the biggest dude, you get a little extra space. The ones who disagree with this statement are the lityle giys that would stay away from the physical stuff or hide behind the refs...

A lot of smoke that Kessel complained when he wasn't with Malkin.

True, at least at Kessel effort

But that's still better than Brassard effort

Yeah don’t pay Buch but spend that money on Goodrow and Reaves instead. Much better team now.

Easiest defensive assignment in the league. Dude can’t even put up a point per game in the coast.

Ulitmate net front presence, just jas to screen the goalie...No dmen can move him from the net, you will not see reaves getting crosschecked in the back..

Ok, I thought it was because Sully and others wanted him to play more defensively and he refused.

Reaves ain't gonna be screening the goalie because the puck won't be in the offensive zone lol

Yea instead of played I should have said produced lol. But still no one will be worse than Brassard due to his playoff production in the past. He was just a baby.

Understatement. I've made it known I'm not the biggest fan of ERod, but Reaves makes ERod look like Brayden Point.

I agree. Would much rather have Reaves than ERod. I'm not saying Reaves is good (neither is Erod) but there are intangibles that come with guys like that. If we aren't going to try to make legit improvements to this roster I would at least enjoy having someone that has some push back when things get physical.

All that said, I would much rather try to make this roster competitive than just sign a bunch of 3rd and 4th liners.

I for one am shocked that the guy that wanted Risto and Zadorov is pro Reaves.

Saying I would rather have Reaves than ERod isn't really a pro Reaves statement. For the record, I had no desire for us to ever trade for Reaves but I also had no desire for us to just fill out the roster with a bunch of 4th liners/fringe 3rd liners.
