The Stars are signing D Jani Hakanpaa to a three-year contract worth $1.5 million annually, according to a source.

Tucker Poolman just got a 4 year deal in Vancouver as an AHL d-man. There is clearly a demand for d-men and the market prices are reflecting as such.

The Rangers traded a bonafide first line winger to the Blues for a Klondike bar. The value wasn’t there for the forwards, and we the fans misjudged it.

That deal makes the Reinhart deal look like the Ristolainen deal

i'm confused...that was directed at the return for skunk, which is underwhelming unless you consider the underlying factor...

never mentioned risto

- Michael Pachla

Everyone is saying the Sam return is not better because as it stands Reinhart is a one year Rental and is going to want to get paid.

Risto is in the same exact situation. He is going to want 6 mil a year.

So Ristolainen is not on a one year contract and cant walk after this year?

A Klondike bar has more value.

It’s more like a banana flavored popsicle.

my point was that sam didn't sign an extension and isn't interested in staying in the east, which makes him a pure rental as he won't re-sign with fla...

risto, to my knowledge, is different as no doors have been closed to an extension

Like I’ve been saying the whole time. You cannot compare these two deal. Their contracts are not the same. You don’t even know what Reinhart’s cap hit is going to be this year.

I heard.

The Sabres had every chance to lock Reinhart up long term.

They created this mess an ultimately it lead to an underwhelming return for a very good player.

Risto is a team guy who suffered through twice as much losing as Reinhart and never gave anything but his best. He's probably also amenable to resigning somewhere. He's also a D which was at a premium.

Reinhart was widely reported to be determined to go to free agency, where he will want at least 1.5-2 mill more than risto and probably a very long deal. He's a wing who never proved himself at center so he plays the least valuable position.

Risto got a 1st and a 2nd (and a cap dump)
Reinhart got a 1st and a prospect with a better chance of making the NHL than a second.

I fail to see the huge gap...

So don’t make the deal then.

Go to arbitration, sign the one year, have him as your 1C for the season and watch a desperate playoff team give you more at the deadline for an actual rental.

I think the position might be the bigger reason that you can't compare them. Sam is 10x the player Risto is but he plays 2nd line forward.

Jean Sebastian Dea just went on a radio show in Montreal and said this about Eichel

"I haven't had the chance to chat with him a lot. I don't think he's a bad person when you get to know him. But all I can tell you is, he's not a Sidney Crosby. You see the difference in leaders when you walk into a room with Sidney Crosby. No matter who you are, your name, your pick rank, he'll take care of you. He will talk to you as if he were talking to a partisan, a young person he meets in the street.

He's not a bad person, but there might also be reasons why Buffalo was in such a situation.

I have worked with leaders during my career and you often see the difference. You see the way he behaves off the ice. He's an excellent hockey player, but at the leadership level ... I'm sure that with maturity and age he'll get better, but it's still pressure to be a captain and perform at that age. But I don't think he's the leader you can find in the Penguins.

Not going to lie, when I saw the Sabres social media announcing the Ethan Prow signing, I initially read that he was from "Suck Rapids, MN".
