Green is not going to move Pearson off of Bo's line. He doesnt care if Garland is considered top 6 that's for sure.

No mention of Klimich either.

There's a few teams that have re-shaped their teams this summer already. Summer isn't over.

What was 650 so cranky over?

- manvanfan

I don’t know. I saw a few whiney little female dog tweets complaining about Vancouver media and naming SN650 as piling on while so much good stuff has happened recently. It’s like media (or fans) aren’t allowed to look at the moves critically, only positively.

Lets see how they look on the ice first, Baumgartner will still be coaching them.

That's true. I thought it was improved.
- boonerbuck

I thought it was a wash. I’m not sure if they were worse, or just team D was worse. Whatever, it’s in the past.

Player wise, I think it’s a wash again. Hopefully coaching is much much better.

Didn't Benning talk about more ummm better as a group instead of individuals.

They did add more hitting. Chatfield (2.72), Benn (1.84), Schmidt (.82) hits per 60 last year.

Poolman (5.79), Schenn (14.53), OEL (4.47)

Is this hits/60?

Because I doubt both Poolsey and Schenner are both in the lineup on the same night, and I’d be surprised if either gets more than 10-12 min per night.

It has the words hits per 60 in my post.

Poolman 18:18 last season in Winnipeg. Who have Pionk and Demelo on the right side as well.

Interesting discussion about Toronto’s approach to free agency.

Apparently Dubas contacting agents and saying something like: “if your guy isn’t getting the term he was looking for how about consider coming to Toronto for one year, at $3.5 (instead of $5) and Hayman your next contract”.

I am optimistic, I agree with Booner the defence if not improved is more balanced. The influence of Shaw is yet to be seen but I spoke to a pro scout yesterday who said that he is the best move we have made this off season. His Dad coached with him and said he will help the defence as a team overall. I am curious how long before Pearson is on the 3rd line, I think it'll be Podz who supplants him leaving Pearson and Hog on the 3rd line. With D!ickinson on that line it can definitely create some matchup issues for teams specifically in our division. I think the lineup is more suited to the style that Green wants to play which is an attacking forecheck like demons style. I liked it in the St Louis series and this lineup can pull it off.

Sorry, I didn’t read the whole thing.

Unless he is playing a ton of PK time I can’t see it. He’s going to be paired with a rookie.

I don't know how the pairings will work but what I do like is that I'm fine with putting different players together on paper. Last season it was when I mixed a bunch of other pairings.

EK was just Sportsnet's version of TSN's Maggie the monkey.

Well his dog used to make the picks so I think they stole that idea from him.

I think Hughes Hamonic is likely. I think Green will probably want to start with OEL and Myers, which will probably be tragic. So maybe you’re right, OEL Poolman and he is up in the 18-20min range.

I'd prefer to not have 2 shrimps on the 2nd line with Bo, but overall i agree on paper.

With so many new players, it'll be interesting to see how line combo's work out.
PodK is penciled in most people's top9, but is obviously a ?

- dbot

I'd agree about the short guys, but Hog and Garland seem to play bigger than their size: hard on pucks, go to the dirty areas, etc. They're probably feistier and meaner than Bo is

Here is an interesting take I read on twitter referring to Derrick Ryan,

he was 12th in icetime and 1st in every analytic category on the Flames last year.

guys who know hockey know that in general he's a marginal player especially offensively. I have talked to 3 NHL scouts and an Assistant coach and they all said the same thing- most analytic darlings have one thing in common they are not that good. I have done some work on analytics and I think the problem is that the metrics have too much variability built in and can't accurately reveal a single players contributions. I would love to hear what you all think.

That’s funny. You know the guy drank way too fast when it comes up looking exactly like it did going down.

I struggled mightily with pairings also. More options aka combos this time around. Tougher & more stay at home types.

Why did you struggle with pairings?

Hughes played with Hamonic last year and Rathbone and OJ played with the giraffe.

That leaves Poolguy and OEL. Don't complicate things.

Covid disruption & injuries & no training camp made it difficult.

That too lol

I don’t like Baumer & the D underachieved under him. They were bad but shoulda been measurably better.

Rigged schedule in our division was pretty hard on this team. They eased the Leafs in. It was a month and a half before they even played their first back to back or longer maybe. Multiple days off between games a bunch of times in that time period. Vancouver had 5 back to backs with no extra days off in between by the time Leafs had their first. Van only had 1 practice in something like their first 8 games because their sched was so brutal. All that cushion they gave the Leafs had to come from somewhere... just dump it on Van. Help the NHL's most marketable team at all costs. They couldnt have them miss or fall out 1st round again. Desperately need revenue.... and what happened...they flopped again. One of the reasons I didnt follow hockey much last season was I was so disgusted in what the NHL did.
