Yeah that’s why I was curious. Wonder if and what the pens offered Saad.
- Feds91Stammer

Like I said a while ago, feels like the last time we got THE UFA target de jur that everyone wanted was when we got Fehr, and it was Eric (frank)ing Fehr. Beyond that, did we sign Paul Martin or was that a trade?

It’s strange because the majority of stories that come out about players’ time in the Burgh are extremely positive. Once people are here it seems like they love it, but no one ever wants to come here in the first place.

The last 3 seasons....I'm surprised here ...have to say though that Saad is pretty much a yearly 20+ goal scorer who's hit 31 before, McGinn is not

McGinn is a fine bottom 6 guy maybe even middle 6 but Saad is a legit top 6 guy.

I mean Saad averages double the points McGinn does for his career but go on.
- Feds91Stammer

Do you really this this guy is worth paying $1.75 million more the next 4 years, plus one additional year at age 33 @ 4.5 mil?

I don't!

Anyone know/read what the blues are trying to get for tarasenko? Are they looking for NHL players or just picks/prospects?

I feel like a Pettersson+ package could be a starter for Tarasenko

Saad had 24 points with Colorado last year in 44 games. Get your heads out of your asses people, he's not worth 4.5 mil for five years.

The market dictates players worth, not past contracts. It only takes one GM...we are officially a bottom feeder for Free agents with hexy in charge...oh well free agency used to be fun to follow...

Saad has been a top 6 forward with BHawks in their ruling the league days and also the Avs last season...thats going to account for at least a bit more production than McGinns deployments and linemate combos....for the record here though before this potentially gets out of hand, I think Saad > McGinn hahah

Will the last year or two maybe look bad? Sure. But the signing isn’t worse than McGinn that’s for sure.

Exacly and this why I wanted to throw a load of term at Saad to get the hit down, because after this season or next, it doesnt matter much at all IMO.

That’s such a reasonable contract. Wish Pitt could land an impact free agent in my lifetime.
- Victoro311

Gonchar is easily the best UFA they’ve signed in a very, very long time, right? Think u could land one every once n awhile at least.

This will be Saad's fourth team in 5 years. Why does no one want to keep him?

Think that’s unfair to say when Chicago literally traded for him back using the best forward they’ve had besides Patty Kane.

I'm not going to pretend to know the inner workings of the Hawks, Avs and Blue Jackets front offices but there is a thing called the salary cap that can sometimes make teams make difficult decisions...i suspect at least one time this was a factor...and then there's Vic's point, which was solid hahaha

#FIREHEXTALL

I would rather go down swinging with JR at least trying to put together a winner than Hextall just sitting on the bench. Hextall is the Simone Biles of NHL GM's, it's like he is afraid to lose so he is just going to sit in the stands and watch everyone else try to win.

It's not just that Saad is a hometown kid who just signed a reasonable contract in a poopty city that doesnt have a beach or tax advantage. Its that he has done absolutely nothing. I keep hoping there is a plan but it appears there is not... We haven't added more talent, we haven't even added more trucculence... what are we doing?

- MacPatty

Yeah, that Jack Johnson signing really paid off and will keep doing so for another few years.

Feds, I just don't think the Pens NOT getting Saad at that price is something to get upset about. He's no longer the difference maker he was in Chicago.

Well, he's not going to make them dramatically better next year, so why give him that $ for 5 years?

My guess is in the middle of the third year of that contract, you'll be reading about "How can the Blues get out from under the remaining years?"

I think jr’s issue was his lack of plan or identity he shopped for. If he could come up with a game plan that works with sully and an analytics person then he could be one hell of a gm.
