Plans and expectations, huh? What if these plans and expectations spring a leak?

Elliott got 900k.

It can all go sideways for any team. If you signed a better backup than Jones, or the like you are in the 3 4 mil range. They have confidence that hart can rebound.

As well they think jones can rebound with his old goalie coach.

Getzlaf signs for 1 year at 4.5, older than G, is his contract any help with G’s next contract

The all-knowing on this board feel G will give a great discount to remain a Flyer and to continue to piss in Sam C's cereal all season long.

He will resign 5 years at 2.5 per according to the genius's

Minor league depth. Every minor league affiliate has players like this.

How are we rationalizing Martin Jones 3 straight season sub .900 save %, and recycling Nate Thompson a slug who couldn't play two years ago.

With regards to Fletcher, what part of his Minnesota tenure, made him appealing for the Flyers to hire him?

- PLindbergh31

Clarke hired him for the Panthers -- that is all he needed

It is pretty clear Av values a stoic dependability over mercurial talent, especially in the lower pairs. To wit, Hagg over Ghost, for example.

It is like the Hippocratic oath for Hockey (lower lines): First,do no harm.

That is an archaic way of thinking

No, no man. I was saying try the rare 3 goalie approach. I think Buffalo had Miller, Neuvirth and someone else 8-10 years ago.

Try Hart, Jones (if he is the best option), AND keep Elliott as the flame out insurance policy.

would never try to convince otherwise.

my only thing is that trading malkin and/or letang at this stage in their careers isnt going to fix it. id rather just enjoy their end.

although maybe not by giving brock mcginn top six money/term

They should have signed their first back up and also kept Elliot. 2A and 2B.

Elliott wen to TB where Vasi plays like 75% of games and leaves the rest to be divided among much lesser mortals. He went for close to min. Give him 1.2-1.5 and there is no reason he wouldn't take it. Aim to give Hart 40-45 say, your back up (Jones/Holtby whoever) most of the rest and Elliott is your vet insurance policy.

CF goes all in to win and signs two goalies whose last season sv% was 0.87 or something. Unfathomable.

- PT21

I'll ask you again, why would Elliott sign somewhere to be a 3rd string goalie? Do you honestly think at this point in his career, money matters?

Most importantly, when all is said and done and Hart and Sanheim are signed, the Flyers are going to have around 1M or less in cap space. If you sign Ellliot for 1.5M, coming out of camp, you would have to waive him and then carry dead money on the cap when sending him down.

My final verdict is that you have not considered all the variables nor are you likely aware of all the variables involved.

MJL, in all fairness, it IS Crosby and Malkin. Flyers don't have any Crosby or Malkin types.

For the 2M option for a Backup goalie who else was your choice that would have signed here? I think the idea of Elliott was too scary as he was wearing down in the shortened season, A full season could have been an issue, For 2M I think Jones is a fine option, If it doesnt work we can look at options later but would you rather have those big buck signings today for a backup goalie.. At some point you need to have a risk, If our D is better (it is), our offense didnt take much of a hit to do so and you have a cap compliant team I think Fletch is doing fine. Theres risk to Jones, but what other goalies signed for 2M or less had less risk?

i'm not saying ruin the kids life - i blame MTL for choosing him when he said not to.

but all this hooplah about "how is this gonna effect his future" and "it's one mistake" - the poor girl must be thinking jesus do i not matter a single iota in this scenario? everyone is bending over backwards to "rehabilitate" this dude and make sure he still gets to be a sports star making the big bucks when she probably is gonna need a ton of therapy when all is said and done.

i have 2 daughters so what some of you are saying in here is pretty gross

Ha ha. I cannot remember, so it must have been a failure. Give me a break, my man. Its Buffalo, and 10 odd years ago. I am sure there are other examples.

If Hart was not so young, and not coming off a horrendous season, ok. You show him faith, fine. It's warranted sure.

His best backup you can find is a guy who posted 0.87 seasons for the past 3 years! And he played a lot of games. So you think its the best bang for the buck and he played on a poopty team. Again fine. I don't know much about Jones.

But then, there is a lot of risk here when you have done so much to go for it this season. So, sign Elliott, tell him we guarantee you no more than 10 games, but we value you and want to keep you around and we will pay you more. There were stories he was planning retirement a few weeks ago, weren't there? I think if he wanted to play more, the last place he would go is Tampa with Vasi hogging the starts.

I would rather not sign Nate and do that. Its just more consistent with the other moves. Just b/c it is not conventional does not mean it's a non-starter.

Man there's alot of negative on here anymore. In the last 2 weeks (less than) We got a true top RHD, a physical D Man, a steal of a deal on a vet D Man who can fill in higher in the scoring/o end when needed, Shook up the O with trading a core player and getting rid of the polarizing Ghost without keeping a penny of salary on either retained, Got an addition to depth for the fourth line who can win faceoffs (and I do like Laughton more on the wing when possible), and we're still in good shape to sign Travis and Hart. I've seen worse summers than this one so far.

im excited with the changes and without giving up any good players and only a couple of picks, we should be good long term and short term.

Just thinking along the lines lot cheaper and could’ve kept 13th pick. Bear does play somewhat physical game.
