My plan is to acquire players who can play. Martin Jones has been awful 3 years in a row. So now if Hart struggles again you are essentially punting the season.
- PLindbergh31

So how do you fit ullmalk into the roster? Bring him in at 5 mil then say to hart. Here’s 3 mil on a 1 ur deal and You’re the backup? Can you say bob situation 2.0?

Neither Elliott or Holtby would agree to that situation. LOL

They didn't sign Ristolianen, they traded for him. Savard would have to agree to a UFA deal here.

- MJL

Hart being a clear #1 probably played into it, maybe Holtby saw a better opportunity or no one want to sign in Philly

Yeah. Once again he’s into a mess. I still think the only way out is to trade malkin while he still has value and re tool. If the eye keep sending out prospects to go for it the rebuild will take 20 years and the league will have to save them again.

Prob is, the fans want more cups with Sid but he doesn’t have the team around him, or a goaltender etc. It’s a mess and only way out is to rebuild but he can’t.

I think fans players and other organizations value hart value hart more than we do. Those other tenders prob did say that guy is going to be a true number one for a long time so I’m not going there . No chance to be a starter.

Four years and counting…hopefully, it’s the start of something beautiful! May it grow to match or exceed all expectations.

You can do that sort of thing when you have that superstar core.

Absurd, did you say?

When you have a generational player, you have to go for it. They won a couple of Cups but the long drought is coming.
- MJL

would never try to convince otherwise.

my only thing is that trading malkin and/or letang at this stage in their careers isnt going to fix it. id rather just enjoy their end.

although maybe not by giving brock mcginn top six money/term

I’d send both out for as much as you can get in prospects and picks. Creates some cap as well to sign some pieces around Sid. It would be the start of re stocking the prospect cupboards which are bare. Sid probably wouldn’t like it but there’s no choice. They’ve traded so many firsts and seconds for short term fixes it’s absurd.
- Hextall271

agree, the mistake the Flyers made was when the traded Schenn, one of Jake or Simmonds should have went.

With Malkin I am thinking they should get a haul but it is the last year of his deal, who is going to give all those picks and prospects that Malkin would resign with? I am sure they will get a lot but it is not simple. If I am Malkin I only resign with a contender.

meanwhile knowing Pitt they will go 82-0 this season

I am a huge admirer of that guy, having seen his career from day 1. His off the chart talent was always there, but his off the chart hockey IQ, and the way he turned on a dime and changed from blubbering privileged brat to savvy professional is incredible. Up until these last 2 years or so, I don't know if I ever saw him underachieve when the stakes were highest (I have seen AO underachieve in important situations umpteen times, in the league and for Russia)

Thing is, the Xfinity crowd you disparaged still boos him for what he has long since stopped being. Cindy the Cry Baby etc. etc.

- PT21

i have no problem with him still being booed. Thats fun and part of the game, even if its woefully unoriginal at this point. my umbrage was always with the segment who would try to convince you straight face that due to XYZ they would hate him even if he was on the flyers and would never root for him when literally the entire base would collective throat him as hard as possible should he have been in orange and black.

There’s a reason Craig button is no longer a gm. He’s a clown. Hextall is a sleeper agent and is going to ruin the pens 👍

love malkin, but just being reasonable, like you said why would someone give that kind of haul at this point?

even from a contenders perspective, theres a good bit of risk because frankly you dont know how many games youll get or if he will be there for postseason. the days of florida or some team blowing you away with a package of multiple firsts and A prospects are long gone. If someone gives you a mid first, a good prospect, and a roster player or two, to me thats not going to be enough to make a cognizable difference in the bleak period thats coming. id rather just enjoy the time until the banner is in the rafters.

Interesting. I was looking at salaries. Bernier got over 4 mil. Mrazek 3.8. Grubaier close to six. Holy crap. The only two options at our price range were Jones and holtby. Suter got over 4. Wtf guys. Throwing money like crazy.

Because putting together a competent farm system won't help build a winning culture with the young prospects.
