Does that mean we let our BEST player go? I’m not totally adverse to trading him, I’m just saying, who’s replacing the BEST player. I was for huge turnover…but that means replacing guys who did not play well or didn’t fit….that’s not the case with Cout’s.

No g after next year
No coots.
How much cap room is that?

Yeah. Once again he’s into a mess. I still think the only way out is to trade malkin while he still has value and re tool. If the eye keep sending out prospects to go for it the rebuild will take 20 years and the league will have to save them again.

Prob is, the fans want more cups with Sid but he doesn’t have the team around him, or a goaltender etc. It’s a mess and only way out is to rebuild but he can’t.

Will be very interesting to see what Hexy does with Malkin and Letang.

Was your plan to trade hart because he’s going there for starter money not as a backup.

I’d send both out for as much as you can get in prospects and picks. Creates some cap as well to sign some pieces around Sid. It would be the start of re stocking the prospect cupboards which are bare. Sid probably wouldn’t like it but there’s no choice. They’ve traded so many firsts and seconds for short term fixes it’s absurd.

I forgot. Jones has a cup ring from 2014 with LA. He’s gotta be a keeper. 😛

You can do that sort of thing when you have that superstar core.

Absurd, did you say?

hopefully resign them to 3 year deals that match their respective jersey numbers.

Man there's alot of negative on here anymore. In the last 2 weeks (less than) We got a true top RHD, a physical D Man, a steal of a deal on a vet D Man who can fill in higher in the scoring/o end when needed, Shook up the O with trading a core player and getting rid of the polarizing Ghost without keeping a penny of salary on either retained, Got an addition to depth for the fourth line who can win faceoffs (and I do like Laughton more on the wing when possible), and we're still in good shape to sign Travis and Hart. I've seen worse summers than this one so far.

its not absurd. granted, you can argue that some of the moves they made were for poor fits, etc., but the idea of plunging futures, you do it when youre a decade plus of the shortlist to potentially win the whole boat. now its just time to pay the piper. there is no huge long term fix thats possible.

The summer as a whole has been very good. They are a better team. Maybe just maybe there’s more to come. I think Fletch has breathed some new life into this team and it was long, long, long over due.

When you have a generational player, you have to go for it. They won a couple of Cups but the long drought is coming.

Even the salami has no clue who will be available. In his mind:

Step 1 - cap space
Step 2 - ...
Step 3 - PARADE

I am a huge admirer of that guy, having seen his career from day 1. His off the chart talent was always there, but his off the chart hockey IQ, and the way he turned on a dime and changed from blubbering privileged brat to savvy professional is incredible. Up until these last 2 years or so, I don't know if I ever saw him underachieve when the stakes were highest (I have seen AO underachieve in important situations umpteen times, in the league and for Russia)

Thing is, the Xfinity crowd you disparaged still boos him for what he has long since stopped being. Cindy the Cry Baby etc. etc.

Yes it is if you look at what they’re going to be moving forward. They might be a lottery team for 5 years.

My plan is to acquire players who can play. Martin Jones has been awful 3 years in a row. So now if Hart struggles again you are essentially punting the season.

I think after the last cup was the time to start the rebuild. Who was it they rented from Minnesota for a first and then lost first round? Haha
