Pens fans are upset with hextall. He is making the same stupid depth signings there that he is here

Maybe hexy isn't that smart after all...??

Dale weise comes to mind. VDV. The list goes on

Hexy hasn't been on the job long. He's inherited a mess of a cap situation and a 2-3 ok prospects but an overall solid roster.

Outside of trading one of their expensive Dmen, I don't know that there's many moves Hexy could/should be making. Petterson and Matheson aren't easy contracts to move.

I think Brock McGinn is a great signing.

I just don't understand why the kid shouldn't be drafted if he was rated high on their internal board. If they had other roughly equivalent options, different story - they invited trouble.

They are after all a hockey organization. Hockey exists in society sure and they cannot pursue hockey and thumb their nose at society but to me a middle ground was available where they dispelled the notion that they were in any way letting this kid get off easy or downplaying what he had done.

It’s a mistake that was avoidable on that we can agree.

Around 12 years old, Mischief Night, a buddy and I stupidly decide the best target for our shenanigans was his next door neighbor's house because they were on vacation. We toilet papered trees, the house, etc. We wrote in chalk all manner of crappy things on his drive way and his shed. We thought ourselves Champions of Mischief and we passed out in the basement game room thinking of the awesome story we would tell the next day.

Around 630 AM his mom wakes us up, bodily drags us both outside and gives is the what for. She of course knew it was us and made us clean it all up which too k hours and was ZERO fun.

Moral of the story was...do your mischief in other neighborhoods. Man we were idiots.

A bunch of us have stayed friends since we were 5-6 years old….the amount of stupid, brain dead things we did through out child hood in to our teens was astounding. We still bust each other’s balls about some of those decisions. That’s why when I look at the decision of this kid I do not want it to ruin his life….I hope the girl is ok and can move on and put this behind her….obviously I wish MTL had not put this back in the spot light by drafting the kid.

Ask "at what price" and you may find out that the price Buffalo is asking is far higher than any benefit for adding a $9.5M hit to the cap. Eichel alone was not enough to raise Buffalo from the septic tank of the league. What makes you think he'll do different here?
- Letterkenney

Because you build from the net out.
Does hart check the goalie box? Yes

Does Ellis/provy check the top d pair? Yes

Does coots check the 1c box? NO

Does eichel check the 1c box? YES

THATS THE 3 key positions you HAVE to have. Once you have those the support positions/mix can be filled many different ways.

What boxes did bumbalo fill in eichels time ?

Ok if you honestly believe eichel isn’t available or that philly didn’t have to go get lindros I don’t what to tell you.

I didn’t say you wouldn’t have to give up major assets to obtain those type players.

There are none available in Fa. So you either trade for pick (example wright at draft) or eichel because he’s the available one now on trade.

That’s the point of stock piling all these assets. Flip some for the elite talent. Or flip then for Ellis/risto type and roll with the average 1c. And you’ll lose.

Even if you trade say some combo involving tk York picks bee whatever you’re still gonna have pieces after trade. And have the 1c.

I can’t wait until eichel gets moved and this board flips out how we could’ve easily beat the package and all the assets we still would’ve had left over. Gonna be great

Eichel is a very good player but I wouldn’t sell my team away to get him.
It doesn’t matter what other teams trade in deals. Sometimes a GM might insist on a player or two you either can’t afford to lose or is a foundation of the team your trying to build.

So this is the Flyers team. Fletcher did nothing to address the lack of scoring. Every player on this roster maybe with the exception of Farabee went through prolonged goal scoring slumps of double digit games. The defense core will be better, but I don't see how putting the puck in the net isn't an issue.

As well as the goaltending tandem being a huge question mark.

I just noticed the flyers signed Jones for backup goalie. Very underwhelming.

At this point, it is what it is. Let's see how it plays out on the ice. If it's a disaster, the Flyers will probably have a new GM before next year.

Yeah, I did too. I am sure many of us did. Mine were a lot, lot worse than those two boy-scout-gone-bad stories mentioned here but I will refrain.

I am not fooled at all by Kraken signing Schwartz. Those 2 wingers: Eberle and Schwartz, are in decline. They could end up getting 40-45 points playing on that 1st line. I expect Grubauer to not do so well either when playing behind a less possession crazy team like the Avs.

Wtf are the Isles up to?!! Who is is playing RW?

I'm not concerned about goal scoring. The Flyers are going to be a solid team.

Hey advanced metrics nerds…does anyone track how many goals occur directly after a hit is made upon a puck carrier who’s subsequent pass is responsible for primary (or secondary) assist? Is that a thing?

This would be IRT judging how effective finishing a check is compared to….I dunno staying in a more defensive position or something?

Any info would be great

If I were Chuck, I would have added a 3rd vet goalie if no great back up options were available. So, if signing Jones, keep Elliott, or sign Holtby.

Can someone explain to me why we signed Risto instead of Savard who is much cheaper and we could easily have traded (for much less capital) and then signed?

Neither Elliott or Holtby would agree to that situation. LOL

They didn't sign Ristolianen, they traded for him. Savard would have to agree to a UFA deal here.

I would conjecture the stat doesn't exist. The defensive positioning would vastly dominate the hit effect, I suggest.

But don't take my word for it. You have one season of Risto ahead. The poster child for that kind of analysis.

Someone mentioned he would be an intimidating player for people taking liberties with our skill players. Well, given the nature of stats of guys like Eichel, Reinhardt, Skinner, ROR ... when Risto is on the ice and off, it would seem to me the only players he intimidates are the skill ones on his own team.

Except he did. The flyers issue last year wasnt that they didnt have guys that couldn't score, it was all the little things.

Slow starts
Too much passing
Lots of time in our own zone
Poorly timed goals against that sucked energy out of players.

If i were to list players on our team that can hit 20+ goal, it covers a lot of our team.

Giroux
Atkinson
Couturier
Konecny
Farabee
Lindblom
Hayes

Hard to say what the Isle’s will do….I like Schwartz more then you, but agree Eberle’s best days are in his rear view mirror. Grubauer cashed on a vezina-esk type of year, but the Kraken do not have McKinnon or Makar in front of him.

Does that mean we let our BEST player go? I’m not totally adverse to trading him, I’m just saying, who’s replacing the BEST player. I was for huge turnover…but that means replacing guys who did not play well or didn’t fit….that’s not the case with Cout’s.

Linus Ullmark signed a 4 year deal for 5M a year. That is out of the Flyers market nor should they be making a signing like that. Anyone criticizing Fletcher for not pursuing the player is simply off base.

Yeah. Once again he’s into a mess. I still think the only way out is to trade malkin while he still has value and re tool. If the eye keep sending out prospects to go for it the rebuild will take 20 years and the league will have to save them again.

Prob is, the fans want more cups with Sid but he doesn’t have the team around him, or a goaltender etc. It’s a mess and only way out is to rebuild but he can’t.
