Whoever crafted that statement should lose his/her job. Because if you read it, it suggests this "young man" is an alcoholic or has a drug problem and needs "help." Not a word about the fact that there was another life affected.
Trudeau had no choice. if a club you have publicly supported just weeks ago does something off-the-chart stupid like this, you cannot be silent. Especially given what he has based his brand on. - PT21
Wierd thing is a lot of the analyst later were just puzzled as the kid they took really wasn't even a first rounder. So to take all the heat for a kid that might not be that high in the draft was a little off. |

Suddenly, the pp qb cup brimmeth over: Provy and York were already there. Now Risto, Ellis and Yandle. - PT21
I've seen footage of Risto as the net front on the PP. Perhaps that allows us to move JvR? |

Looks like Coots is getting around 8.5M. It absolutely starts with 8M, zero chance it’s lower - ClaudeFather
I hope 8X7 gets it done. I think Coots game will age similar to Bergeron. If his final 2 years are upside down value to performance so be it. Hopefully the cap will outpace the issue by then.
Isn't Bergeron up next season? What will he get at his age?

better question...IS his potential for a career being diminshed? Have you read Molson's statement? The team intends to keep the player, monitor him and support him. - shekkie
Professionally not yet. Psychologically I also hope not. I am hoping he doesn't draw banner waving nuts picketing Bell Center or whatever.
A famous poem by Yeats comes to mind:
" Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity." |

My point was basically that the kids should’ve been drafted as he was clearly a “draftable” player. And he should have career. These idiots on tv trying to shame habs for picking him because they want to take this kids career away is bs. In a nutshell - Stayin alive
Where have you been lately. If you don’t agree with the mob or say the wrong word you get your career canceled.
I’m all for people getting a second chance.
People just need to stfu leave the kid be. Let the people involved straighten this out. |

Huh. Then maybe I was too light on the Habs. I thought he was a higher graded talent who fell because of the issues. |

Yeats on Hockeybuzz...color me surprised.
Psychologically I hope that whoever helped the kid craft his request to not be drafted this year is also ensuring he's getting the help he needs.
I'm also very very glad that the transgressions of our own teenage pasts occurred before the advent of cell phones, social media and pop-up crowds.

This coach loves him some Nate. Again I don't think it is a matter of beating him out. Unless Nate is just complete crap he will play no matter what the others do imo. - hello it's me 2050
yeah ok, AV is on the hot seat, CF is on the hot seat so play this guy because we like should help with their job security. They will ice the best team to win, they have no choice. If Nate starts the season, plays well and the team is winning he will get more games. If I am tanner L, Frost or any other center I am making sure its my spot to begin the season

Presumably, they drafted him because he is a good player, and he had very good value at #31. If they skip him over, there is no guarantee they get a player like him again.
They botched the public imagery of this imo, not the decision. A carefully crafted statement, issued in coordination with his camp, could have been fair to both parties. Something like this?
The Montreal Canadiens have decided to select Logan Maillaux with their 31st pick.
We would like to explain this decision. We believe Logan Maillaux is a talented young hockey player who has made a serious mistake.
We strongly condemn the mistake, and this drafting should in no way indicate our overlooking the serious implications of such an act to the victim's family. To this end, we declare that Logan will not play for us this season and will be asked to undergo professional counseling. The Canadiens will arrange for meetings with women's rights groups in Montreal, where we will ask Logan to be present, and we will present the results of such meetings as a public report designed to address the issue of misogyny in young athletes.
The Canadiens also believe in Logan Maillaux's future as a contributor: to human society and to hockey. Our hearts go out to the wronged young woman, and we will be reaching out to her privately to convey our repugnance in what she had to endure.
We ask all parties to respect the privacy of the parties involved.
- PT21
While your statement is undoubtedly better than what actually occurred. I agree with the poster saying if you have to issue a statement with the pick, good chance that it’s a mistake.
To everyone who thinks he won’t have any chance at a NHL job if he doesn’t get selected on his draft year….guys are selected every year that were passed up in the previous draft. There are undrafted free agents every year and opportunities through tryout. If talented and character issues are addressed, opportunity is there.
He asked not to be drafted (for good reasons). I think the best option was to let him go undrafted.

This signing has nothing to do with frost imo. They would have signed a 3rd line center instead.

has to do with all C's in the bottom 6. If Frost can play 3 C then Laughton or Tanner can play 4c.

Thompson is a waste of contract slot, as well as a waste of oxygen. Jones was literally the worst goaltender option on the board today. Fletcher failed miserably in free agency. He made 3 trades. One I like, one is questionable, one is a cluster(frank). He had to make changes, he did that. We will find out how much better this team is. - PLindbergh31

We used to love rearranging a neighborhoods lawn ornaments and put them into other peoples yards on the same street or a street over.
Tie just filled lawn and leaf bags to car bumpers with salt water fishing line so the person would drive down the street to work with leaves flying everywhere.
A neighbor was being a jerk so we filled his soft top keep to the top with leaves.
Completely TP someone’s yard and house was always a good one. |

I just don't understand why the kid shouldn't be drafted if he was rated high on their internal board. If they had other roughly equivalent options, different story - they invited trouble.
They are after all a hockey organization. Hockey exists in society sure and they cannot pursue hockey and thumb their nose at society but to me a middle ground was available where they dispelled the notion that they were in any way letting this kid get off easy or downplaying what he had done.

Maybe hexy isn't that smart after all...??

Eichel isn't out there. He is a Sabre. And if your trying to get him the package needs to be huge. So, you might get a top line center but then your taking hits in your depth other places. Also who says the Sabres really want to trade him in conference.
Lindros was a draft pick that comes along only so often.
These guys are not guys that come around all the time.
I would say, if you wanted to move Couturier, it should have been done with hextall since it was a bit of a rebuild then. Then it might have made sense since he was on a very reasonable deal and would have got you max value at the time since Hextall seemed to be slow paying when he wanted to compete. - J35Bacher
I agree. They should’ve traded him back then. I said they would never win with g Jake or even coots. It was a 10 year rebuild. People laughed at me on here” no team would ever say that” “no fan base would ever accept that”
Here’s the thing… it doesn’t matter what the team says or what the fan base thinks they’ll accept.
What matters are the actions taken. And it was clear from day 1 it was a 10 year rebuild and it was clear then and now they won’t win with g Jake coots.
If philly keeps up with contracts on older players and messing up cap flexibility we will be talking about how they won’t win with hart provy bee etc |

Around 12 years old, Mischief Night, a buddy and I stupidly decide the best target for our shenanigans was his next door neighbor's house because they were on vacation. We toilet papered trees, the house, etc. We wrote in chalk all manner of crappy things on his drive way and his shed. We thought ourselves Champions of Mischief and we passed out in the basement game room thinking of the awesome story we would tell the next day.
Around 630 AM his mom wakes us up, bodily drags us both outside and gives is the what for. She of course knew it was us and made us clean it all up which too k hours and was ZERO fun.
Moral of the story was...do your mischief in other neighborhoods. Man we were idiots.

I can’t believe the conversation had to go this way. Some kid using any a nanny (naughty) cam or the like and the victim was somehow to know that! Outrageous. Obviously, a judge didn’t agree.

Ok if you honestly believe eichel isn’t available or that philly didn’t have to go get lindros I don’t what to tell you.
I didn’t say you wouldn’t have to give up major assets to obtain those type players.
There are none available in Fa. So you either trade for pick (example wright at draft) or eichel because he’s the available one now on trade.
That’s the point of stock piling all these assets. Flip some for the elite talent. Or flip then for Ellis/risto type and roll with the average 1c. And you’ll lose.
Even if you trade say some combo involving tk York picks bee whatever you’re still gonna have pieces after trade. And have the 1c.
I can’t wait until eichel gets moved and this board flips out how we could’ve easily beat the package and all the assets we still would’ve had left over. Gonna be great |
