Figured it was that, obviously shame on the kid for doing that but geez, little harsh of a penalty

I’m sure I don’t have all the facts on it, but we’re starting to move away from any kind of rehabilitation and forgiveness even for teenagers who grow up in an over sexualized society.politicians need to stay out of it as they’re only trying to score political points

Jesus Christ the kid made a mistake. He apologized And ASKED not to be drafted so he could work on his life and try to make up for it.

Trudeau needs to shut his arrogant (frank)ing Castro mouth. He is gone way past his mandate and is now trying to destroy a teenagers life because The Canadiens made a decision.

- MBFlyerfan

really really sad what this world has become. This kid imo has shown legit remorse for a bad decision. Mistakes not allowed anymore they want to crucify you.

The kid apologized and put a statement out asking all NHL teams not to draft him because he didn't think he was mentally ready and should focus on fixing things about himself. Montreal decided they knew better and drafted him.
- shekkie

The girl has said multiple times that he didn't really apologize.

I really don't understand why people can't be reasonable. It is beyond absurd that a young man's life be destroyed even for a juvenile douche move like this.

Why not have the kid issue a public and private apology (latter directly to the woman), undergo counseling and then let him play hockey for Christ's sake.

Last year when he won the selke. I’ve heard this mantra before. Sell his value will never be higher!

Oh wait. We now need a number one centre.

I’m not understanding why Montreal drafted him when he asked not to be drafted. It’s confusing.

He asked not to be drafted expressly because he knew the firestorm that it would create after his fresh conviction. Bergevin ignored his wishes and now he and his family have to live in a veritable poopstorm, on top of their ongoing legal and personal troubles.

Meanwhile the Habs are also giving a big middle finger to the victim.

There's no side of this that the Habs haven't shat on.

Edit: Website just updated, he's a King. Still a ridiculous and desperate contract IMO. Glad the Flyers are staying away from these types of deals today.

Yup….they don’t have that type of cap space to spend.

curious if Politicians were not allowed to use social media, would we then have politicians working to what they think it right and not what is currently popular

I certainly agree that we need to consider the victim however the same poop happened with the kid Arizona drafted. Throw him to the wolves even though it happened when he was 14. Not age of majority. This time the prime minister of the country is chiming in to ensure that the kid is not able to recover into a solid citizen. We live in an over sexualized culture and never consider what the kids are bing bombarded with when they screw up.

He has the flyers by the balls. Unless they are a terrible team and near last place come the deadline he will 100% be resigned. Assuming he wants to resign here....
- hello it's me 2050

See I don’t buy that all. If coots or ANY player has the team by the balls that’s the teams fault. You simply ask coots now hey what you thinking? We’re thinking 4-5 year deal. Oh you thinking 7-8 ? Ok we’re gonna be looking to move you. Thanks for the service.

Funny how it’s a business when moves are made but never thought it’s a business leading up to a move.

You don’t let player contract situations strap your current OR future. You have options IF you don’t ALLOW yourself to be put in that position.

I didn't advocate for anything, just giving facts of the situation to the person I quoted. I don't think the kid's life should "be destroyed" (this feels hyperbolic) over this but I think Montreal should have realized the implications of drafting him and giving additional life to the issue. The girl deserves none of it and it seemed a reasonable request by the kid to just leave him be for a season or what have you while it all died down.

What you suggest as far as apologies, counseling, etc seems reasonable and appears to be what the player actually asked for.

the original incident aside, this is feels like the best take on it. Why not respect the kids wishes and in general let the topic die.

Talking about the president inputting his opinion. It isn't and wasn't needed.

I don’t give up on kids that make mistakes. I just think it’s a good rule of thumb that if mistakes are fresh or unresolved to wait to draft. This was obviously the case which the kid himself recognized.

Agreed…an absolute creep move and he knew he screwed up. The girl said the context of his apology was a text. But he’s a goofy kid. I liked that he renounced his draft status but he technically can’t. Now instead of blending back in and maybe being able to get his life back, the Habs have basically put him right in the public spot light….embarrassing him further. A douche move by a douce of a GM…can’t believe Jeff Molson signed off on this.

I didn't think you were advocating for anything. My comment was largely rhetorical. I am just saying there are ways to treat this fairly small-potatoes issue seriously without shortchanging the girl or the guy.
