The forward group was easily our best position group going into the off-season and there really wasn’t much worry there
- ClaudeFather

I really feel the additions to our D (Ellis in particular) will allow the forwards to not be relied upon so much defensively. This should open up the scoring a bit. We need bounce back years from a lot of guys, although I'm not expecting much from Hayes for the first half of the season due to his recent surgery.

So the season all rides on Hart?

- Glak18
I really think so. It's time for him to poop or get off the pot. If he's not the man, then we need to move on.

Happy UFA day! Here's Martin Jones and Nate Thompson! You're on Candid Camera.
- PLindbergh31

you know your constant poopting on the flyers brings me tremendous joy, but really. its tough to nitpick a ton here. you knew they werent going or able to do much today, and they didnt. what expectations could you really have had for today?

same with the pens. Evan Rodrigues. Awesome stuff, but what can they really do? Neither team has cap room and for the most part guys are still getting overpaid.

Giroux has started to decline in scoring and will likely decline over the course of this season I believe.
Have to hope TK bounces back after two off years and JVR/Hayes can score 25-30 each

- Buzzo

Two off years? WTF are you talking about?

He put up 61 points in 66 games in 19-20.

He had one down season last year.

7th two seasons ago and 15th last season. Goal scoring isn't the issue with this team. Preventing goals is the issue.

All those other teams with 4Cs and backup goalies that make you guys slip off your seats. Jfc calm down.
- hereticpride

Hart just had a SV% in the .870's. Team SV% was in the .880s.

"Backup goalie" could be your starting goalie in a hurry.

Right he adds plenty of skill
- hello it's me 2050

Skill in faceoffs plus adding grit to the lineup. Are you expecting a 30-goal scorer at 800k or what?

Hopefully the additions make the group as a whole much better, they really need some cohesion , we will need a good camp. Last year guys were day dreaming for entire periods and it showed

He’s prob thinking of TK in the bubble who was pretty underwhelming.

What depth does Nate provide that someone in house cant? Why the rush to sign him?
- hello it's me 2050

Nate provides a veteran voice in the locker room, and can give you 10 minutes a night. He's big, hits and blocks shots. He fits the bill for the Flyers forward group needed, i.e. more size and grit. He makes the Flyers tougher to play against.

Those Sabres beat the Flyers 6-1 when they had an 18 game losing streak, then essentially ended their playoff hopes scoring two goals in 30 seconds.
- PLindbergh31

And Buffalo is going to be worse than that team that beat the Flyers...

Hart's save % was due to the dumpster fire in front of him.

Maybe. Im not holding what happened in the bubble or during the covid season against anyone as some sort of trend. That is just silly.

Ok, well the Martin Jones fits what the Flyers need, an experienced goalie that is still young enough to carry a larger load of games, and has the experience as a starter for a playoff team.

Covid has made it feel like two years.
But he was not good at all late that season and was invisible in the 19-20 playoffs in the bubble and it carried into last years shortened season.

stop he adds no grit he aint that good on faceoffs. Look at who the potential 4th line wingers are going to be. How does he complement them? He is slow as balls. No offensive skill at all.

And the way I see it he made trades rather than really screwing us long term with ufa signing of Dougie or someone like that on an overpayment. Good value with Ellis and prob with risto is he plays well and is resigned. Love the Atkinson trade to change up chemistry. These were things that HAD to be done and couldn’t be left to a crap shoot hope we sign this guy or that. You strike out on retooling the d hart and playoffs are toast.
