Jones and Thompson

Yeah, go head Bill, defend this poop.

- BiggE

Cheap backup on a 1 year deal, and a solid 4th line veteran that brings in a good attitude that can do well on faceoffs and the pk for 800k? Oh man the horror!!!

Maybe they carry 3 goalies…due to…the condensed schedule.

I’m a fan of Lyon and think he has the potential to be a very good backup. The Flyers defense and issues defending plus Hart being very young with limited experience himself…that’s hard to find an opportunity.

Jones has had tons of opportunities. I am not impressed.

Jones definitely smells like CF's backup to a backup plan. I don't think he wanted to have to sign him, but looks like all the others were snatched up.

Yeah imagine if San Jose had a good goalie between the pipes in those years? Stanley Cup maybe?
- dubc55

Jones was pretty damn good during San Jose’s Cup run…

Thank god it’s Nate Thompson instead of Cizikas right? Fletcher is the corn in my poop
- PLindbergh31

Depends on what Cizikas is/was asking for. I'll bet it wasn't anywhere near 800k.

He'll be a lot cheaper, don't act like there isn't a cap, and we can only get what we can afford.

Generally I think he’s done very well. Atkinson Ellis and even rr knowing that it was basiclLy a bidding war for him. Yandle and Thompson good.

I’d have preferred holtby over Jones but fine.

- Hextall271

I think the reason they went with jones over Holtby was because Jones isn't as big of a name as Holtby, so I think it adds less mental pressure to Hart. Jones also had a better season than Holtby on a dreadful SJ team.

Who are the Flyers hoping for to help carry this team offensively, more so scoring goals? If your gauging over past two seasons, we’re still not strong with forwards being able to put puck in the net.

Thompson is fine if he serves as the 13th forward and doesn’t box out the kids from getting a fair shake. If he stay fresh and healthy, they would insert him more probably in the playoffs.

Well...

Holtby, err, I mean Martin frigging Jones.

Eric Staal... I meant Nate Thompson.

Now we just have to overpay Sanheim and Hart and we are back to square one.

Honestly, I do think we are a better team (on paper). we weren't expecting much today (and we got it!!).

Thompson is fine in the 4C role. Veteran presence. No issue sticking him in press box if someone steps up.

I'm willing to let it all play out.

2 poop moves no matter how you slice it. Stick to trades Chuck s your FA signings suck.

Waste of a contract as you know AV will way overplay him. No need to for him at this time. Tells you what they think of their "young" prospects.

Jones is flat out terrible and the plan is to give him 30 or so starts. And your faceoff man is over the hill and horrible on the PK. Enjoy the kool aid

No. Flyers could of had Brodeur in his prime last year and they might of won 2 more games.

All the free agent goalies available Fletcher picks the one with the .896 save % last year. Can’t make it up
- PLindbergh31

You make a ton of assumptions here.

1) You dont know who Fletcher reached out too
2) You dont know if any other goalies were open to signing here
3) You dont know if Fletcher had any other choices

Im not happy with Jones either but we dont know the situation.

Agreed…I mean there’s a salary cap and Hart & Sanheim still left to sign. Some people on here are too much.

Defense is this teams problem. 2 years ago they were 7th in goals scored. Last season they were 15th.

They added a guy in Atkinson who can score, Allison will get his share. Konecny could bounce back.

Let worry about defense, they can (and will) score fine.

Who did you expect considering the cap space we had?
