You’ll need to move one more player at least. Killorn I should think.
- Wildschwein

I hope so but I think Killorn is a big part of the leadership group so JBB might keep him over Palat

Hey guys, can someone tell me if I'm making sense of this correctly?
Johnson + Pick for Seabrook. Hawks take on Johnson's 5m per season, and Lightning take on Seabrook's 6.85m per season, BUT it doesn't count against their cap space because he's on LTIR?
Thanks in advance

I haven't looked at the cap breakdown yet, but I think this would give them enough room to fill out the roster holes with league minimum plugs. Backup goalie could be a random hobo from the bus station because he won't see much action.

But yeah, Bowman just gifted us a bandaid for the immediate cap pain, but with Point and Sergachev needing new contracts over the next couple of seasons, the Lightning might not be done making moves. If I had to keep one of Palat and Killorn, it would be Palat.

Does this mean we see Zajac come in on a Spezza-like contract for a chance to win a Cup?

TB is fine now once their RFA's are signed.

Palat/Point/Kucherov
Killorn/Cirelli/Stamkos
Barre-Boulet/Colton/Joseph
Katchouk/Stephens/Maroon
Raddysh

Hedman/Rutta
McDonagh/Cernak
Sergachev/Foote
Claesson

Vasilevskiy/UFA

The Seabrook contract counts but TB is essentially allowed to go 6.85 mil over the Cap. They actually gained 1.85 mil in Cap space.

As of right now, unless something changes : the Lightning went from a team that could roll four quality lines to a top-heavy, two-line team. Definitely a step backwards.

Losing our "3rd line" hurts a lot. But we still have our top 2 lines. Our top powerplay. Our top 4 defensemen+ Rutta. And a good 1PK with Cirelli and Killorn. That's still a solid team that can compete for the cup.

Our bottom 6 fwds and call foote will have to prove themselves. If they don't we have all our first round picks to deal. I think we're sitting pretty.

Oh....and we have the best (frank)ing GM in the league!

I love when people whine when other teams take advantage of rules to their advantage. We call them sore losers.

The Lightning are still serious contenders without Gourde, Johnson, Goodrow, and Coleman.

But, they are not nearly as deep and if the Islanders pushed us to seven games with those players, it's very possible the Lightning would lose without them.

I think Stephens, Colton, and Joseph are more than capable of stepping up. I am on the fence about Foote, but I think he could fill Schenn's role in terms of minutes and deployment. Both have about the same foot speed.

The other guys in Syracuse (Barre Boulet, Katchouk, Raddysh) I don't know much about beyond what I read in the blogs. Not sure how ready they are or if they can tow the line or will get crushed when faced with NHL-caliber competition for an entire season.

The minute both of those guys raised that second Cup, I knew they were gone.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Colton does with a larger role. Both Marchessault and Verhaeghe were young players we had who showed promise and ended up producing with more ice time after going to Florida. Colton seems like he was better than both those players on their time at TB, but that could just be recency bias. Regardless, it'll be fun to see how the bottom six pans out this season.

I feel like we've been hearing about Katchouk and Raddysh potentially joining the lineup every offseason for the past few years. If there's any time for them to join the roster and make an impact, it would be this season.

It's raining roster moves today -

Bogosian coming back to Tampa - https://twitter.com/faiel...tatus/1420425328762265605

Borgman has gone to Dallas - https://twitter.com/BoltR...tatus/1420426211868782593

Point has been extended.

Brian Elliot coming to Tampa as backup.

Flames sign Coleman.

Savard signs with Canadiens.

I'm OK with all of this so far.

Huge difference between Colton and Marchessault/Verhaeghe is M/V both led the Crunch and the AHL in scoring. Colton never has been known as a scorer. I don't see Colton being more than a really good bottom 6 forward.

Point has been extended.

I'm guessing $9.5 x 8.

Point got the Kucherov deal... 8yrs X 9.5M

I like the Bogosian signing to work him with Foote. I like the PEB signing as well should pair nicely on 4th line with Stephens and Maroon and be on the 2nd PK.

Overall with not a lot of cap JBB did well. If the youngsters on the third line can gel and play hard this team will still compete and be a hard out with the top 4 D, top 6, top PP and BEST GOALIE IN THE WORLD between the pipes.

Overall great day for the Lightning facing the cap crunch.

EDIT: Point has 2 cups, is a top 10 C in the league and will still make over 1 million less than Marner. That is kinda crazy to think about.

So far, this offseason has not been the dumpster fire I expected. Losing Gourde sucks, but getting rid of Johnson's contract for a 2nd round pick was better than I hoped.

Bogosian is an upgrade from Schenn.

Elliot is an upgrade from McElBackup.

And I can't wait to see our new top pair of Sustr-Seabrook patrolling the blue line.

Marner couldn't carry Point's jockstrap.

I wonder what happened to Dotchin? (edit : He's playing in the Czech Republic)

Unrelated stat : Point has 73 points in 67 playoff games. That's insane for a guy that was drafted 79th overall, was an average skater, and everybody said was too small.
