Yikes.
Being woke is hard 🤣🤣🤣

There's a clear difference between being "woke" and not wanting your team to sign a 25 year old with a long history of issues with officials and teammates.

Not to mention the fact that he's awful at actually defending.

Not interested in an openly antagonistic poopheel who's best known for:

A) getting suspended in Juniors for using a racist slur against a teammate.

B) having at least two NHL teams decide they want nothing to do with him because of his attitude.

C) getting in a fight with his own goalie.

D) getting dunked on by Sebastian Aho and Mat Barzal.

E) his Twitter meltdowns

Sorry. But there are a lot of people who have worked extremely hard in the organization to build the brand of the Canes to be what it is, and signing a guy like DeAngelo (and possibly even Virtanen?!?!) is taking a huge poop all over all of that work.

Never said there wasn't valid cause to be 'disappointed', but that initial comment came across more along the lines of 'devastated' or 'enraged' 😅

I'm personally of the mind that it's precisely because CAR has a strong brand/team identity that they can take on such a risk. Their room seems to have (have had?) plenty of personality and the organization has leaned into things like the Bunch of Jerks bit from a couple years ago. I think that identity is precisely what makes a DeAngelo easier to successfully integrate.

Is it really that hard to build a brand of woke hipsters?

As I said before: the kid has clearly needed counseling. I'm speaking from personal experience and knowing his family. Therapy is something Anthony DeAngelo never considered until the most recent incident with Georgiev.

He doesn't have the kind of support system that would push him towards something like therapy. I'm by no means trying to make a million excuses for the kid but when I tell you his entire family is bat poop crazy, it's an understatement.

Whether he's done the work or not, this is probably his last shot in the NHL to prove he belongs. I wish him nothing but the best and hope it works out for the Canes. Would be huge for your team if you lose Hamilton. You'd be replacing some of Hamiltons point production from the back end on such a cheap deal.
