Same article speculates that NJD and CAR are the best fits for him. Not so sure he waives to play in NJ and I'm also not super sure CAR can afford to pay Tarasenko (he's due $9.5M this year, $2M more than his cap hit) AND re-sign Svechnikov.

I still can't figure out where he'd fit here, if Palmieri, Cizikas, and Parise are being signed. It'd almost certainly mean Beau was part of the package. I really think the focus is on Leddy's spot at the moment.

Edit: At this point I'd almost prefer to sign Ryan Murray than to trade for someone

Murray is coming off a $4.6 per year deal. Not sure what he go for now.

I'm on the fence. It'd all depend on what we had to give up for him. At the right cost, I'm more than willing to take the risk for the upcoming season and the next one. The payoff could be immense. Worst case, his shoulder is shot and he needs more surgery and he goes to LTIR.

But I also think that at some point we have to somewhat mitigate giving up all our futures. Not saying we shouldn't give up anything if we're in the hunt and think we can go all the way, but we can't trade every single first and second round pick forever otherwise we're in for some very dark years once this window closes.

Very tricky call on trading for Tarasenko. Beau can be frustrating but he is young and fast. Tough to keep giving up #1 as well.

I think Murray is the way to go on defense unless his contract demands are too rich.

I guess the Ladd situation has me gun shy. I'd hate it if he was a shell of his former self but not hurt enough for LTIR and you end up with...well...exactly what we just had for past several years, except even more cap space used up.

I would almost rather go into the season with Palms, Parise and Wahlstrom and hold off on any big forward moves at this time.

If tarasenko was a free agent I would consider signing him on the cheap. Not giving up assets for a player that is a check away from his career ending.

Yea but there's only two years left on his deal. Not some long-term dogpoop contract like Ladd had. I'd say the risk would be pretty minimal. Still there, but minimal. I trust that if they do trade for him, and I don't think they will, that they've done extensive homework on his medicals and thing it's worth it.

I honestly think it's almost not worth debating though...at this point I'd be real surprised to see Lou bring him in.

I am not concerned at all about signing free agents at this time from other teams. We will have Boychuk LTIR at the deadline plus whatever cap space we have at that time for a rental.

Isles were the only team close to tamp the last two years and tampa has lost their entire third line plus at least 1 or 2 more key players. The isles upgrade with Palmieri over eberle and Parise over mdc/Leo. If they add a d man they should be considered a top contender imo. Not sure where taresenko fits in but I'll trust Lou after the last two years with pageau and Palmieri nit to mention Martin's return was huge for this team

I would go into the season as is and see how things play out and leave room to make a move at the deadline if needed. In terms of defense, does Chara make sense even with the Isles having Greene if Chara can be had cheaper than Murray and maybe you can use Bolduc for Greene if needed?

Bolduc isn't sniffing the NHL this year unless multiple d-men go down

Aho does not seem to be a trusted option. Going to be very interesting to see what move happens on defense.

Don't disagree on Aho, but if they don't trust him then I don't see them handing the reigns to a kid with only 24 games of pro experience in that wonky AHL season last year (where he only played against two different teams all season)

Always amazing how Tampa can afford to fit any player with a name at this point.

Pretty sure it's an $800k/year cap hit so that's probably how

Can they even fit 800K? Murray you are signing with the Isles for one year 800k and liking it.

With this staff I'd expect a vet of some type to be brought on for sure on d. Who idk but that seems to be the area of need currently. I really don't mind the forward group if it's
Lee barzal Palmieri
Bailey Nelson Lee
Parise pageau wahlstrom
4th line
Parise still has it and with pageau I think that line can contribute on offense.

I might like the 3rd line better than the 2nd line.
Chara is plenty of vet then.

No, I'm happy with that forward group as well. Parise is an upgrade over Komarov offensively and I'm sure understands that he'll be playing a somewhat-defensive role as well.

It's the D spot that I'm most interested in. I'm not loving the idea of giving up more assets to fill the spot, doubly-so if we have to acquire an RFA like Dunn and then also pay him. Kinda why I'm leaning towards signing someone like Murray or Merrill and just running with that. Shouldn't cost a ton and we don't have to lose anything (other than cap space) to do it.

Forward group should work nicely. Hope we hear something soon on defense. I'm not worried on Parise and Palms as they should be done.

That should be Beau on the 2nd line but I agree someone they can sign even if it's for a year until they get more cap space.

Per @TheFourthPeriod, Parise’s deal believed to be a one-year deal. Palmieri working on a “long term contract,” Cizikas deal being worked in, Pelech deal being worked on as a long term deal north of $6M per, trade talks for Tarasenko still ongoing. #isles

I'm just operating under the assumption that the Palmieri/Parise deals are completed, since that seems to be the general consensus among the media. I'm assuming Cizikas' deal is complete, or close to it, otherwise I feel like someone out there would be reporting that Casey is talking to other teams. That may not leak from the Isles side, but it might get out there from other teams. I think the RFA's should all be signed with relatively little issues as well. It's just a matter of what's left over for the blueline when that's all said and done.

Upstate's forward group that you all like so much has Lee being double shifted on the first and second lines!
