Pagnotta seems to think we’re resigning our 3 guys eventually and that we have “some other irons in the fire” so we shall see.

Which is why the above thread mentions the isles and blues are the only two teams with no moves made yet

From the NHL Trade Tracker........

JULY 28: Buffalo Sabres acquire defenseman Will Butcher and 2022 fifth-round draft pick from Buffalo Sabres in exchange for future considerations.

I guess if no one will trade with Buffalo, they can only trade with themselves???

- JohnScammo

That's hysterical. I guess if you're the only kid in the sandbox, you have to entertain yourself.

Edit: They still haven't fixed it. Still says the same thing.

Have to imagine the other "irons in the fire" would be Palmieri, Parise, and a defensemen. There's no room to add another forward, after those two, without losing a non-Panik body

The Sabres have signed right-shot defenseman Ethan Prow to a one-year contract worth $750,000. Prow, 28, played for EHC Red Bull Munchen in the DEL last season.

Of that I don’t doubt.

Still…

Must be my latent Canadianism. Just can’t help it.

That's a question for before opening night. If they dump Eichel for futures this summer then I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them come in under 20. They'll basically be icing an AHL team, save for maybe a small handful of players.

From The Athletic:

It’s been rather quiet on the Vladimir Tarasenko trade front — too quiet, a league source who is close to the situation told The Athletic on Wednesday.

The source said emphatically that Tarasenko should have been traded by now and that the Blues are only further diminishing his value by hanging on to him this long.

“The trajectory doesn’t get any better,” the source said. “They poop on this guy … to their own detriment. It’s time to move him. The train has left the station.”

Gee, I wonder if "source who is close to the situation" = "team that's trying to trade for Tarasenko"?

Same article speculates that NJD and CAR are the best fits for him. Not so sure he waives to play in NJ and I'm also not super sure CAR can afford to pay Tarasenko (he's due $9.5M this year, $2M more than his cap hit) AND re-sign Svechnikov.

I still can't figure out where he'd fit here, if Palmieri, Cizikas, and Parise are being signed. It'd almost certainly mean Beau was part of the package. I really think the focus is on Leddy's spot at the moment.

Edit: At this point I'd almost prefer to sign Ryan Murray than to trade for someone

I know it's the minority view here, but I'm not so on board with trading for Tarasenko...and yeah, it's because of the surgeries. He's had, what, three shoulder surgeries since 2018? He very well could be 150% and ready to fill the net with 30+ goals. That wouldn't shock me...I just don't know if I'd be eager to bet over $7m in cap space on it is all.

I'm on the fence. It'd all depend on what we had to give up for him. At the right cost, I'm more than willing to take the risk for the upcoming season and the next one. The payoff could be immense. Worst case, his shoulder is shot and he needs more surgery and he goes to LTIR.

But I also think that at some point we have to somewhat mitigate giving up all our futures. Not saying we shouldn't give up anything if we're in the hunt and think we can go all the way, but we can't trade every single first and second round pick forever otherwise we're in for some very dark years once this window closes.
