Flyers still have a bit of salary cap to use and resources to maximize to go for it this year. Dave Scott just scheduled a forecasting call with Chuck to make sure everything is maxed out ready to go for the cup this season.

Bill, do you have a breakdown of the draft picks Philadelphia still has for 2022 and 2023? Would be nice to know the ammo CF has yet to fire for this balls to the wall push. I expect some to be spent at the trade deadline in season as well.

- StepfordSam

In 2022 they have all but their 2nd round pick. The 7th rounder to Arizona was the one acquired in the Gustafsson trade. They have their own.

In 2023 they have all but their second round pick.

Here is why I don’t like the “better” argument, but I think “ready” is more fitting. If the Flyers believe York is ready, as it stands now, he can be inserted on the 3rd pairing with a veteran partner playing behind LD Provorov and Sanheim. He can be sheltered. In sheltered minutes, better is not really as impactful and very subjective because you are giving whoever is in the lineup the role to be “better.”

What if (hopefully not!) Sanheim or Provorov are ill/injured? Do you put York in the top 4? Not if he isn’t ready for those matchups or minutes. You can elevate Yandle though.

Well wait. They will send sanhiem to Seattle for Souccy

He became a UFA the second he was bought out.

That’s what I understood. That’s how he can be signed now.

Looking at his stats, man. He can still put up point. In 2019 he had 62 Then 45 and 27 in shortened seasons. Sounds like he’s a steal at 900k if he can still contribute. Solid pickup for the 3rd pair.

Wonder how caps fans feel about OV being 35 and signing a 5 year mega contract. Don't they know he is 5 years past the point where they should have traded him for a bunch of picks?

It's a subtle hint to Holtby to sign with Philly

Twitter rumor:

The #Flyers are reportedly interested in Arizona goalie Darcy Kuemper ($4.5M cap hit through 2022). Kuemper (31) played 27 games in 2021 (.907 SV%, 2.56 GAA).

According to Pension Plan Puppets, who are rarely wrong about CBA-related issues:

Bought-out players become UFAs, and can be signed by any team on July 28, 2021.

Think it could be one for one. Sanhiem has a little more offense to his game. Could also go for lauzon or Dunn as their d is stacked. But they may want forwards. I just picked soucy as he would be good for the second line and saves us some money.

Not only in Canada my man.

See recent politician reactions to the Euro Super League, kneeling during the anthem, Beijing Olympics, etc.

Politicians have never seen a soap box that they didn't wanna climb on, or pass up an opportunity to virtue signal.

- Tomahawk

Dude, what do you expect them to do? If I were a political consultant working for Justin, I would insist he pretty much has to say what he did. And if I were working for the conservatives, I would insist they issue a statement criticizing JT's pandering strongly.

JT called Habs Canada's team a few weeks ago, lit up the CN tower, etc etc. How can he NOT pipe in? He has run on a platform of apparent progressiveness: esp with re: to women's rights.

What you are calling virtue signalling is really political advertising. It has to be done. Once politicians get in office, they govern in a way far different than what such "virtue signalling" would suggest. Thus, Trudeau campaigns as an environmentalist but supports the XL pipeline. He protests about human rights but sells arms to Saudi Arabia. Clinton, a dem, signed the crime bill and the welfare bill. Bush was for self-reliance but massively increased aid to Africa for HIV. Obama ran against fat cats but bailed out Wall Street. All these things made national sense to do.

The time to worry, is when "virtue signalling' actually starts to affect real policies. That rarely happens though, some huge recent instances notwithstanding.

This person wouldn’t tell me this just to stir the pot or make something out of nothing. That’s why it was surprising to hear, there is no evidence of this other than what they are hearing at the rink every day. maybe this year is different, I’m not saying it’s still this way now but it was something that was talked about last year and hopefully it’s all water under the fridge now

I heard something like this suggested on the Snow the Goalie podcast. No names where directly referenced, but the hosts claimed that it had to do with the Covid protocols, restrictions and new rules related to the pandemic.

Things like this are bound to happen. Masks etc. are very controversial in most average people’s daily life. It doesn’t mean I am mad at people that have a difference in opinion. Conflict happens. It is easy to understand if something along those lines occurred.

Things going back to normal helps many areas, but I don’t make too much out of this. I don’t see it as a lasting serious issue that continues, if that makes sense.

And I am very grateful you are a minority in your country, sir.

He is way ahead in the polls, and I hope he calls elections soon, and I hope the polls are correct and he gets an absolute majority.

Was my roundaboot, low-key way of coming to JT's defense -- saying that officials comment on the nexus of politics and sports everywhere, no matter their political stripe. I purposely draped it in general anti-politician banter as to not trigger the usual wingnuts. Looks like I got you, tho.

I have not. I was a transplant to the area back in....'95 and immediately became a Flyer's fan but admittedly I'm a little shallow when it comes to knowledge of their history.

Apparently Fleury still hasnt heard from Vegas and found out about his trade through Twitter. Brutal way to treat Fleury (IMO). Guy just won the Vezina too. We banter how no one wants to sign in Philly. This type of move from Vegas would give me pause signing there if I were a player

That might be right….maybe the buyout doesn’t become official or takes effect at end of year. I guess he can negotiate but he doesn’t become a Flyer until the new season starts….technically it’s July 28th this year. Does seem weird that term and amount and NTC already being reported if technically they can’t do it…..then again Florida could have granted his agent permission considering the buyout.

The problem is, you were so concerned with the draping, as you usually are, you ended up embalming and burying the the body instead of dressing it.

Yeah, let’s just rush York with ZERO backup plan. And if he struggles we can all complain that Chuck threw him to the sharks. York is a KID, he will have a shot at camp and certainly play some games this year. Some people’s posts here, good lord.

They did light up the CN Tower and Niagara Falls in Red, Blue and white….people in Toronto were not happy…lol. Especially after the Habs beat the Leafs….and no offence but most Canada east of Ottawa do not consider or would ever consider the Habs Canada’s team…it made me nauseous.
I laughed because if it had gone the other way no way in hell would anyone in Quebec ever allow that to happen in Montreal….

Oddly enough I went to my last two years of HS in western PA, about an hour north of Pittsburgh...this is when they won back to back cups and I couldn't be bothered to care less about the Pens. Soon as I got to the Philly area I because an Hockey/Flyers fan.
