If this team is successful, we have Hextall in large part to thank. I'm more concerned about current Flyers management screwing up what Hextall did. - MJL
Dave Scott with the flamethrower aimed at his GM's ass.

Funniest thing you've ever posted. . If successful, you dont think chuck made all these recent changes? Or you think ronnie called chuck and told him what to do? |

Characterizing Hextall as scared to make a trade and being afraid to lose a trade is simply not accurate. - MJL
I want to know how Keith Allen would do...this board is ponderous!!! Phucking ponderous!! |

You can stand behind it all you want, it would still be wrong in my opinion.

I've come to realize one thing that is very clear in our interactions.

In terms of the cap situation, Fletcher has gone hog wild. - MJL
flyers have always and always will spend to the cap limits. Why is this shocking to you in anyway. You act like Saint Ronnie was 10's of millions under every year.

Thoughts on Martin Jones...he's supposedly being bought out.
Probably could be in our $ wheelhouse and the draw of a 35-40% split with Carter may allow him to get his shine back and play his way into a potential last ditch starter money scenario.
Is there a one year reclamation deal to be made once he gets the "buyout" money. The revamped defense has to be a bit of a draw too. |

|
I don't think Chuck has gone wild. What did you expect him to do? Nothing? He's trying to clean up the defense and has (at least we hope) and got Voracek off the books. Both of which needed to be addressed.
Simply put, he's been doing the job he was hired to do. |

Guessing Hextall would think go time is after we win a calder to prove our young guys are ready.
Chuck hasn't gone wild at all, hardly lost anything of importance, kept our young guys, and made the team better. Might seem like chuck went wild because he made a couple moves, which hextall was scared to make a trade. Cant be a successful GM if you are afraid to lose a trade. - bradster
I’m not sure if I would say he was “scared” to lose a deal, he just didn’t seem to want to take that next step, beyond signing JVR. I think looking back his over all draft record is average at best. Some nice picks, some major whiffs…It was time to move on from Hextall after it became apparent he wasn’t willing to move his plan along.
Chuck has made some nice moves without selling all his important future assets and has breathed some life back into the organization that started to stagnate under Hextall. At least Chuck is trying to give the Flyers back an identity…so far I like what I see but I think there’s some more work needed. |

There is no question that Fletcher has done what he was mandated to do. I don't blame him for anything.

The best part about that trade is Saint Ronnie liked Umberger as a player. Still thought he had something left in the tank.

If Chuck had come in and gone hog wild sending out picks and prosepcts for 30 yr old vets and burning second picks like they were 7th as used to be the norm, I wouldn't be happy at all. That catches up to you, and is what forced Hextall into cleanup mode for 5 years. As long as we continue to build primarily through the draft, things should be fine. I still get scared whenever Dave Scott talks about this team.. |

Chucks logic “ you can’t bring back the same players year after year and expect different results”. Hextall hoped for growth from within, but that plan never really materialized or led to any tangible success. What Chuck looks to do is spend some of the assets that Hextall collected….he’s looking to change the mix and hopefully it will lead to growth we’re it counts…in win’s and losses. |

If we are a non playoff team and way under the cap, i would be even more upset for not trying to win. Might as well go full rebuild if thats the strategy

Like Ovi a lot and understand why the Caps did it, but 5 yrs @ 9.5 per yr, that is brutal. |
