Any deal for any player that is almost a decade in length, and pays significant dollars, comes with risk. It says something to the player and to the team when a player of Landeskog's impact is not deemed worth that risk, IMO.

It says that Sakic is judiciously evaluating his team's strategic competitiveness and not making impulsive short-term decisions many other GMs make (and impetuous fans want him to make). Granted, im sure some of the GMs make those decisions due to ownership pressure that Sakic doesn't have.
