Fleury a 'Hawk is a pretty big deal. - 35Tony0
Big dumb deal not getting a sweetener back to take on that much salary. |

So the league would not allow Seattle to draft Price and then trade him back to MTL at a lower salary, yet they allow Vegas to circumvent salary? Something else is going to happen. - powerenforcer

Agreed unless Stan has a deal with another team to take him for assets by retaining salary. |

Pretty bad deal. $7.0 for a position we could’ve had wrapped up for half of that. |

I think this deal is not as dumb as ED not making us retain on keith for 2 years. MAF is coming off a great year and keith was antlicatially one of the worst D in the league when you factor he got 22 mins a game.

A player we didn’t need, from a team that needed to move him, with nothing thrown in to sweeten the pot? Bad. |

Its apparent hawks are taking one last shot at the cup while towes kane are here. If hawks don't make the playoffs fleury murphy big z are traded at the tdl. In the offseason kane and towes are traded if they want to chase a cup. Maybe bowman knows he is on the hot seat and bold moves to save his job. Who knows what's going on anymore guess were in for interesting offseason. |

Yes, but would they have made an official announcement if they were just going to trade him? It’s on FB that we acquired him. |

They are better in net. How much better is Jones than Duncs? Other then that, it's still the same team as last year.
Still a big unknown on Toews, Nylander, Guadette, Dach, De Haan. Lots of ways this team could go. |

Fleury still deciding if wants to retire or not. Are the hawks better yes are they playoff team imo right now no but have to think more moves are coming if not its very confusing two questionable trades in which we gave up a lot cap space draft capital and a promising young d man. Just confusing. |

Anything can happen, but I would imagine having healthy Toews, Dach, Nylander, Guadette and others will make the team significantly better.

This might not work out, but I believe the Hawks are trying to get better right now. I'd rather see these types of aggressive moves than more wasted years doing nothing while Toews & Kane get older. This is a win now league. |

Agreed you never know what you get with him in the playoffs but besides that, Vegas should have eaten at least $2M just because. |

There are a lot of ways this could play out. Sure, it would have been nice if Vegas retained salary. Really not much of a bad situation.
Scenario 1 - Fleury retires. No big deal. The guy they traded away (Hakkarainen) probably wasn't on anyone's radar to even sniff the NHL.
Scenario 2 - Fleury is traded before the season. Hawks send him to a team that he wants to play for. Package in the rights to Zadorov (or whoever). At least the Hawks are bargaining from a position of power here.
Scenario 3 - Fleury plays and he is bad. No biggie. His cap hit is off the books next year. Maybe someone picks him up for picks the the trade deadline.
Scenario 4 - Fleury plays and he is decent/good. Offer him a 2 year deal for 3.5 mil or trade him away for even better picks.
Scenario 5 - Fleury is awesome. Trade him at the deadline and fleece the other team. |
