I can't believe this trade was made without Stan doing his due diligence on whether
1) MAF would want to play here
2) He had a trade worked out already with a team that MAF will play for.

The only other idea/opinion that I have that might mean the Hawks “retaining” Fleury is if they think they can field a playoff contender. I’m definitely not we’ll versed in the off-season vs in-season LTIR aspects, but here is the idea I had.

Maybe Stanbo is “weaponizing” the LTIR cap space for Tampa. Just Seabs & Shaw seem to have a $10.775 cap hit. Wonder if Stan does a trade looking like:
Palat $5.3 1 yr
Killorn $4.45 2 yrs
Cal Foote RFA
Barre-Boulet RFA
1st ‘22

For 50% retained on Connolly ($1.75 cap hit) & Carpenter $1 mil.

Tampa gets the glorious cap space and 3rd & 4th line veterans that are “cheap”. Stan can flip Palat at the trade deadline and gets prospects & his 1st ‘22 pick back. They keep Fleury thinking they can compete with Palat & Killorn in the lineup 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s official.

Call is in.

Bowman has commented on it. “The opportunity to acquire a Vezina winning goalie doesn’t happen every day”. Or something like that.

Didn’t sound like he has designs on flipping him. Also, not only did we not get a sweetener, we actually did give up Hakkarainen to to get him

It might be in everyone's best interest to wait for the official call and how this plays out before doing the "Stan got bent over" dance....I find it hard to believe he took on money for nothing and there isn't a second part of this trade.

I'm not a fan of Stan but I don't allow myself to see red every time he does something. Take a deep breath

I don't ever remember all these big splashes even before FA opens. I thought Seattle would be wheelin' and dealin', but they haven't really done much.

This Fleury deal is a complete surprise. I don't understand why Bowman didn't get anything else out of it. I mean, great goalie, only 1 year, but he is doing Vegas a huge favor. Is Fleury going to be able to stop 40 shots a night better than Lankinen? Probably. Crawford did. He got zero credit for it, but Crow kept us in many games we didn't deserve to be in. Is Bowman looking to put that band aid on the poor defense?

You have to think he has other things cooking.

Pittsburgh, who would be the most likely place for him to get flipped to was apparently surprised by the trade, so there is no second part of the deal that was lined up with them.

The way Vegas operates, I bet they just realized they were running out of time to clear cap space and make a Fleury deal (he was due to resubmit his no trade list tomorrow) so they can run at someone in Free Agency. Probably called Stan and on the spot offered Fleury for free. No brainer to take it for Chicago as they can afford to retain for a year and it would net them at least a 2nd.

Exactly. You'd imagine if StanBow had a 3 way deal it would all be announced at once....... If it's PITT they have a 22 yr old former 1st rd Dman named Joseph they're high on. Puck moving type: https://www.eliteprospect...911/pierre-olivier-joseph

Flower is a whiny fellow. His agent posted a picture of him with a sword in his back after the Knight's traded for Lehner. You don't want an unhappy Fluery in your locker room.

I wonder if part of the deal is - If Fleury does not retire then there is either salary retained/or a player named. Maybe both sides are giving him time to decide his fate.

I hope Stan isn't thinking that Fleury, Jones, Kane, Debrincat, an iffy Toews, and the other assorted cast of characters makes this team a Cup contender.

And a few of players needing contracts. There has to be more moves coming, because I'm confused. I just don't see them.

If there is no part 2, then this is a dumbass move on top of the Jones dumbass move (not beating that dead horse). Wonder if this is desperation from Stan or maybe Wirtz was tired of losing and wanted to make sure we made the playoffs which means more butts in seats?

I think the rational here is, if the team plays well, they have a goalie with a track record but aren't locked in long term. If the team doesn't play well, they have a goalie they can likely move for an asset at the TDL.

Like I said above, they could still move Seabrook and or Shaw's money possibly. Maybe some guys will hang as RFA until the Hawks move money to LTIR.

So the league would not allow Seattle to draft Price and then trade him back to MTL at a lower salary, yet they allow Vegas to circumvent salary? Something else is going to happen.

Gun to my head, this is exactly what StanBow is doing. ...... Rebuild/retool/getting younger over, take a run at the playoffs, if they suck they move MAF at the TDL (what kinda NMC does he have?).

Guess to become cap compliant a few guys have to spend a day in RKF and he uses his LTIR space to bring em up. ............... No doubt the Hawks are a better club with MAF and Jones THIS yr and not sure how good that is longer term..... Rocky wants butts in the seats. Remember when fans were allowed there were big swaths of empty red seats at the arena.

I get that, but Fluery's market was limited. Stan should have been able to get something more from VGK considering how up against the cap they are. Just looks like a missed opportunity.

As you mentioned, gonna have to wait and see how it plays out. Seems Rocky wants a full house and StanBow feels he just acquired two difference makers.

Big dumb deal not getting a sweetener back to take on that much salary.
