What?!
- Popsghostly

maybe instead of everyone bashing STan and asking what HIS plan is, maybe it's time to go ask DANNY WIRTZ what THEIR plan is......Stan isn't the decision maker.......

Exactly my reaction

Took on $5M annual hit to get rid of a $6M ish annual cap savings???

I get LTIR rules are tricky, but just weird.

- pdx2ord

Johnson is still a useful player. I am not crazy about 3 years being left but it is far from Bowman's worse move this off-season.

It kind of does what you think. If the deal is front loaded, the cap hit would count.
If the SPC has the same $$ in each year, or the $$ increases, the player can retire and the cap hit goes away.

So, If Fleury was 35 at the time he signed this, then yes - the cap hit would have counted. Because his deal is front loaded. Good thing he wasn't 35 yet.

Thank you for helping clarifying this.

Got it. What exactly is his deal? I know it is AAV of 7.

all you guys who defended Stan to the death now turning on him.....it's rich.....
- SteveRain

I don’t think most of us defended him to the death as much as pointed out that many of his moves proved correct during the cup runs. And remember, many were mocking Bowman, the Hawks and some players while they were winning. Unless there’s a big picture here that Stan is architecting, I not only have no idea what the end result is supposed to be I have some serious doubts about his strategy.

It was more the fact that we were up against the cap after Fleury that had me scratching head.

I assume it means there are other deals already queued up.

Hawks still have about 7M in cap space. Now to get rid of Strome and the big Oaf. Carpenter and de Haan would be nice, too.

I knew it and figured you could fly better than anyone.

And speaking of curry I made a killer Rogan Josh yesterday, but I suppose it would come in a distant second to the Rogan Josh you make. 🤷🏻‍♂️

What was starting the season with Delia and Subban (Good God) splitting starts then near hitting the lottery with their THIRD option in goal, Lankanin? Or starting an overwhelmed 19/20 yr old Bogvist and rookies Mitchell, Beudein, Kalnyuk in front of them at defense and rookies Hagel, Highmore and Kurashev along with a 20 yr old Dach at forward sprinkling in Entwhistle and Hardman types?

Was it a rebuild, retool or tank to start last season when they were on record, for what that's worth, they were going young?

- Mr Ricochet

Last year, especially with Toews and Dach out, gave them the opportunity to look at what they had, and what they didn't. They didn't like what they saw and have adjusted. The team has added S. Jones, Toews, Dach and Fleury (or whoever he brings from Pittsburgh), and now Johnson. They go into the season as a playoff contender. That's a good thing.

I think Stan woke up a couple days ago and said "everyone says I'm a good maintainer, but can't run a rebuild. Well (frank) 'em. I'll just trade pieces to be competitive again and maintain that!"

Even if he got a 1st, it was a 2nd. lol

Johnson is definitely better than Strome and Suter. So there is that.

WTF is going on… even for Stan these moves don’t make sense. I feel like Rod Sterling is the Hawks new GM.

In two years. A year after the supposed deep draft of next year.

Lack of patience in a rebuild never ends well. We will see. Get Johnson a couple of decent wingers and he might pot 35-40 points on a 3rd line. I guess. Everything just seems so haphazard.

2023 is also a deep draft.
