Lndeskog being offered 7x7 is making sick. We signed Jones to 9.5 and could have been players on Landeskog instead.

any legit cup contender...who out of which has a better option in goal than Fleury?
- SteveRain

Yeah, was wondering if maybe Colorado may be “approved”, as it’s closer to family in Vegas. At 50% retained he would be only $3.75 for 1 year.

Fleury for Byram Bowen (semi-joking 🤷🏻‍♂️)

Yep....... Take MAF and a 2nd to clear SEVEN mil off of Vegas' books so they can FA shop tomorrow. Ok, flip MAF at sometime, maybe the TDL, for a 2nd. Now you have TWO 2nd's instead of one.... StanBow had leverage and did not use it.

Jarmo going into the silly season wanting to rebuild/retool had NOBODY to send Jones to except the Hawks. Somehow he gives up what amounts to two 1st's, a 2nd and a kid he drafted 8th overall 3 yrs ago........ StanBow had leverage and didn't use it.

Are draft picks sure things? Of course not, that's why you use your leverage to get as many as you can. ....... MAF and Jones are fine players but that doesn't mean you don't hammer out the best deal you can.

- Mr Ricochet

And what kind of leverage did StanBow have over VGK? Now that MAF's SEVEN mil is off the books Vegas has cap space to make a deal for Eichel or a Landeskog. ... What was clearing that 7 mil off the books worth to VGK to add a premier difference maker? A couple 2nds maybe? ..... StanBow didn't see it that way with free agency starting the very next day and GIVING Vegas 7 mil more to do some shopping. ......... StanBow had leverage and did not use it

What makes you think that Landeskog would want to sign here? These are not your 2013 Hawks, the Hawks have to overpay to add talent at this time, that’s just the way it is. That is why I hate that Stan gave up next year’s #1, but let’s see what else is up Stan’s sleeve before we have him dealing blackjack in Vegas.

While I didn’t want the Hawks to get Jones, especially at the cost to acquire and pay him the Hawks also didn’t need Landeskog. They needed draft picks and young prospects to rebuild. Now they’re in the middle of a retool with no supplemental talent, no depth and now little cap space. Unless there is a big plan we’re not seeing I have no clue what Bowman is trying to accomplish?

Fairly simple to me - the owners want to ice a competitive team so they can sell tickets, jerseys, luxury suites and create some excitement around the team. They turn it over to Hockey Ops and Bowman with instructions to make it happen.

They are doing it quietly behind the scenes, unlike James Dolan did with the Rangers when he decided he wasn't willing to be patient watching his team rebuild and keep missing the playoffs.

Whether Bowman has a clue evaluating talent and trade options is a completely different matter.

Meanwhile NHL Head Office is happy as hell with this - their big name teams (Chicago, Philly, Detroit, LA, NYR) are out there making headlines and spending money.

Well we did not get a goalie in the draft but sure got one now . #1 GOALIE #1 D man #1 Center . a good bunch of young talent to blend in why can't we compete this year ,look what Habs did with not much more if any more . Sign big Z and we have some big big D man .And what's wrong with Connelly is he really that bad give him a bigger role . We may need a adult to coach them but who knows could have a fun season

Just a guy.

Here’s a question….

How many times last year did we say to ourselves “damn, if only this team had a goalie they could count on, then maybe they’d have a chance”?

We didn’t. Most people were pleasantly surprised At how well the goaltending held up under overwhelming fire.

- Ogilthorpe2

Right but he's not just a guy...he is Vezina Trophy Winner. This issue is the Hawks have to many "just a guys". This is like having a Corvette engine but we still have a Corolla frame with some nice tires.

What is the plan Stan?

It my not be 2013, but we still have a lot going on at forward position like, I don’t know, Toews, Kane, Kubs, Cat, Dach and soon Reichel.

Can you imagine a line of Toews, Kane and Landeskog?

Bowman might be better suited for valet.

No return from Vegas? They left Fleury at the end of their driveway and Bowman picked him up for nothing. If he doesn't play, no cost. If he does play, one year commitment for a starting goaltender with a winning pedigree and a smile on his face.

Or would you have preferred Martin Jones, Holtby, Brian Elliott or Mikko Koskinen.

I would like the rebuild to continue for one year then make the moves that are needed. So hawks had chance to take advantage of cash strap team and fleury and we got goalie who doesn't want to play for us and might retire then come of retirement and sign with the team he wanted to play for. And then hawks are back at square one. Still lacking 3rd center 4th line center towes is still a question mark lack of team speed physicality up and the lineup. Defensive system players are still learning after 3 years. Like i said confusion

Stan will now trade MAF to the Pens (50% retained) for a conditional 7th round pick. #assets

No doubt, remember the mt seats last time the Hawks played in the UC? ...... In 5 yrs the Hawks went from going for it adding Maata, Z Smith types, to shedding those types and going young, back to "going for it" this coming yr all the while missing the playoffs every step of the way.

Curious about your earlier post about NYR. During their rebuild in a couple-3 yrs they added, and correct me if I'm wrong, Trouba, Fox, Kakko, Chytil, Panarin, Lafreniere, Kravstov, K'Andre Miller and made the playoffs in 19/20 going 37-28. .. The Hawks in their 1 yr rebuild added Dach, Reichel, Jones and Fluery.

Which team did it correctly and which owner has a right to say, ok, time to win?

Dear God, I hope he has something brilliant up his sleeve. Losing assets, not getting sweetners, & possibly losing players for nothing are not good. Idk what he could do at this point as he's changed lanes so much. I think I'd be more mad if I wasn't so confused.

You don't really know Fleury doesn't want to play in Chicago. If he doesn't he will just retire at no cost to the Blackhawks.

And the other misnomer you have bought into is that the Hawks are/were rebuilding. They never were. Not with two $10.5M players still on their roster.

Rebuiding is what Detroit and NJ are trying to do. There are no comparable similarities going on in Chicago.

Can someone explain how he can retire and LVK or Chicago have no cap repercussions?

If Keith retired now, wouldn’t the Hawks have repercussions?

Same way Crawford did. All to do with the time the contract was signed, length of time, players age at signing and those sort of factors. I'm sure someone smarter and more versed in the CBA can cover it in more detail

At minimum Bowman should have requested compensation should Fleury retire, like he said he would if he were to be traded. Compensation in the form of a top prospect or 1st pick.
