Hamilton is better at his position than anyone currently in the Devils’ system projects to be. He’d be a long-term, stabilizing presence on d, and we wouldn’t have to give up anything to get him.
Tarasenko when healthy was a beast, but it’s been a few years now and who knows where he’s at. We’d have to give up pieces to get him (I don’t actually know what it would take, a 2 and a prospect would be one thing, but I don’t know that I’d want to lose someone like Bratt or Sharan to get him, and wouldn’t be shocked if that’s what St. Louis wants). And he’d hit free agency just as our young guys are starting to come into their own, so I’m not clear what overall value we’d end up getting from the trade. And I’m not confident saying we’re a playoff team with those two guys until I see what our goaltending looks like.

Why on earth do you think Fitz would ever give up someone like Bratt or Sharangovich for an injury risk in Tarasenko? Lol that would never happen. Its going to be nothing close to that kind of value given up if we make a move for him

Patrik Laine accepted his one-year, $7.5 million qualifying offer. Interesting. he comes off of that next year expecting what? Columbus is a worse team, and he did not do well last year. He should have sought other options because he may be worse off next year. They do not yet have a center, and if they are rebuilding I don't see them signing a decent center.

There is no world anybody is offering a real asset for Tarasenko when everybody knows the player is angry about how his team has dealt with his injuries (red flag) and that the player wants out of the organization right now. All for a guy who hasn't played much in the past couple of years so you have no clue what you're getting out of him.

I'm seeing that the Canes won't be able to sign Bernier. Would be very interested in Fitz signing him. Had a good season playing behind a very bad Detroit team. So he can come here and get the same treatment.

Definitely would like him, and Lebrun said to watch out for NJ when it comes to Bernier. He should be among the top of the list for goalie targets for Fitz

Very nice. Carolina is screwing up this offseason big time.

There’s been several trades this off-season that didn’t make sense to me, Risto and Keith chief among them. Sometimes GMs badly overpay. As shvingter said, Tarasenko is 29 and the best offensive talent available. He’s also theoretically healthy. I’d be surprised if they give him up for scraps.

I legit have no idea what the Blues are asking, and while they don’t have much leverage, they still have a great player who multiple teams want.

Again, what makes you think Fitz would give up a Bratt or Sharangovich for him? It doesnt matter what other GMs have given up or what the Blues asking price is, Fitz just walks away if thats what they're asking for.

Giving up a potential young core player for an injury risk player that doesnt fit the timeline age-wise is literally against everything Fitz has said he plans on doing this offseason. It makes zero sense to even think its a possibility.

I think that is the holdup on any trade for Tarasenko. The Blues are saying if you think he's healthy, it will cost closer to what a healthy Tarasenko would cost. Don't think anyone is willing to take the risk though.

I don’t really disagree with anything you said. My first comment said that I was nervous about the idea of acquiring him, that’s all. Giving up a young core player wouldn’t make any sense, I agree. But as I said, I don’t really see how acquiring Tarasenko fits the timeline regardless of what we give up.

I have no particular reason to think Fitz would do anything stupid. Most of the trading he’s done since taking over has been dumping players, and I think he's done a solid job of it. I also liked the Graves trade a lot.

This is the biggest name I’ve seen connected to the Devils in trade talks in a long time, and big-name trades usually carry some risk. I mentioned Bratt and Sharan mostly because I view them as distinctly below the true untouchables of the team (Jack, Nico, Smith, etc.). I’d be very surprised if Armstrong accepted a fringe NHLer as a central piece of the return for a very good player (no matter how disgruntled or frequently-injured VT may be), and yet we continue to be mentioned as a possible landing spot, so I worry. That’s the extent of my thought process here.

Luckily the Blues have zero leverage here, hes a disgruntled player and has requested a trade. They NEED his cap space to make other moves in free agency so they are screwing themselves even more by holding onto him trying to get a higher return. Not only that, but the longer they hold onto him the more likely interested teams just turn their attention elsewhere. If he is acquired by us, it wont be for major assets.

If it happens it'll most likely be a package similar to the Graves one, something like one of Butcher, Boqvist or Johnsson and a 2nd or 3rd

Landeskog re-signs in COL. 8 years

Didn't think they'd get it done, but this was going to be one of the huge domino pieces in FA tomorrow. Interesting to see how the market develops from this.

I didn't think so either, and this does indeed shake things up. Suddenly Granlund, Saad, Tatar, Coleman, Tarasenko become a bit more valuable. I wonder what Palmieri will get in terms of years and cap.

Just hope we get our boy and some other team with tons of space doesn't swoop in.

Also, question.. I feel like more players are being signed prior to free agency opening. Like Yandle in Philly, for example. We Yandle bought out in Florida or something and so any team could sign him whenever they wanted?

People put us at the top of Hamilton's list because we're the team at the intersection that can offer him the most money and best potential to be a playoff team moving forward. They make it seem like we've already got him inked to a deal but anything can happen tomorrow. Never know when some GM will just go nuts on a mega deal.
