I’m hearing that this week the Habs should be signing David Savard and Cedric Paquette. |

I agree with Savard, good 4th or 5th. Doesn't really help with the lack of puck movement from the D. |

Then Weber retires early, and Nashville gets nailed with a cap penalty of 7.8M until 2030, per the penalty, which was already restructured recently.
Edit: Nothing really changes for Weber, it's Nashville that has to worry. - Darksyde
Assuming Nashville pays something to obtain Weber's rights, how does that stop him from retiring?
I really don't see how paying the Habs anything mitigates their issue...

It sounds like Chris Wideman is a good bet to land with the #habs in free agency. The veteran defenceman is coming off a highly productive KHL season and is eligible to sign a NHL contract on Wednesday. |

Holy! Dude had a weird NHL time but he’s coming off with a pretty good season in the KHL.
I don’t know what to think… hopefully isn’t Weber replacement lol - MONSTERSofMETALZ

Again, this has nothing to do with Weber deciding he never wants to play again/retire. It has *everything* to do with his contract status. He gets traded back to Nashville, Nashville tells him he's going to ride out his contract on LTIR as opposed to officially retiring. Weber gets paid out his remaining contract as opposed to terminating it upon retirement. Nashville loses whatever actually remains to be paid out, takes the cap hit, but doesn't have the recapture penalties against the cap.
It's in Nashvilles best interest to trade for Weber, and pay him out to stay on LTIR. |
