A day before UFA!

I can’t see Bergevin not moving today. He’s usually a trade hunter. There’s too many holes to fill all this with UFAs $

He also likes to wait and sign guys that didn't get signed at the beginning of UFA, don't know if he'll move today or wait and see what he can sign before.

And this is the crux of the whole situation. I'm the end, the organization essentially made exactly the same mistake as the kid did when he shared that picture and information. They did something against the consent of the opposing party, and now they're paying the price for it in the court of popular opinion. The infraction is not what's relevant, it's the consent, and it was ignored by the Habs, so now they have to deal with it.

completely disagree, Mailloux isn't the habs' "victim" here... they obviously spoke with him and his family prior to the draft and got his consent, and he is not being forced into anything. the league does have a particular rule in place that prevents players from retracting themselves from the draft, and they should probably get rid of that rule, but consent is not the issue.

Well last year he got Anderson, Edmundson and Allen. Signed Toffoli/Perry.

So I’m not sure. The D market is costly as hell so we might end up with Wideman/Savard. Lots of rumors rumbling around Hoffman/Paquette

All this won’t be enough though

Adding Wideman, Savard, Hoffman and Paquette? Borderline playoff roster at best...would need a lot of growth from Suzuki, Kotkaniemi and Caufield and Price/Allen would need to steal a lot of games. The Habs are pretty far from a Cup contending roster

I doubt. Habs would need an Hamilton at the least.

Too many holes right now.

1C/2C (Kotkaniemi def not ready)
Top 6 LW
Top 4 RD
Top 6 RD

That’s at least what they need. Not sure how Drouin will be healthy. Danault gone? Weber retreat. Lots of pieces will hurt. Specially if we calculate that Staal/Armia/Perry were a pretty neat line at playoff and all could be goners.

Lots of work for MB in the next 48h

And that top 4 needs to be a puck mover/PP quaterback not another Chiarot/Edmundson

Then he obviously was not being genuine when he said he did not want to be drafted. PR move?

At the time it sorta seemed like a "you can't fire me, I quit" type of situation...get out ahead of it that way if/when teams don't draft the kid they can say that was the reason and double down next draft. It was all PR from every side which shouldn't surprise anybody

Seth Jones was my dream guy.

I guess at least Wideman moves the puck pretty well but he's definately an A option

Timmins said Mailloux was "emotional" at the time, and that looking back he would've dealt with it differently...

I liked Ellis but that dream is dead too. I liked Jones but when you think Chicago more or less gave 3 1sts and a stupidly expensive deal I'm not upset at missing him.

I'm pretty much at the point where I say they use this season as a reset rather than as a way to try and follow up on the last playoff run for fear of making long term mistakes just to try and be competitive
