Stastny at 35 is still a good player and took 50% paycut. I compare where Danault is right now to where Toffoli was last year and he signed for 4.25MM, I think Danault will sign for 5MM |

taking a pay cut when you're 35 is nothing unusual. Danault is 28. he won't take any pay cut |

Toffoli took a pay cut last year. Danault prolly won’t take a pay cut he will get $5MM or less but not the $6MM he is looking for |

No he didn't, he got paid for his fair market value at the time, mainly because of salary cap constraints from the pandemic. This contract is a bargain right now but let's not pretend the guy took a discount for the team, by all accounts he would have resigned in Vancouver for the money we gave him if the Canucks had the cap space available.

his play should have no influence whatsoever on what happened, or how it's interpreted. the league should have just removed him completely from the draft if it was so controversial to pick the guy - Pat1993
This kid's transgression was so horrible that the maximum penalty was a simple fine. The 'never made a mistake' mob has far too many people losing perspective on this, and far too many other things. Great pick, go develop, see you in a few years.

So he didn’t take a pay cut, because he would’ve gotten more from the canucks had they the cap space.
Gotcha.. |

I think he expected more money from the Canucks than what he got here and so did Vancouver, that's why they didn't bother even offering him a contract because they had other players they focused on instead. He had to settle for less afterwards because the market was not willing to pay him what he expected. Taking a paycut would be like the McKinnon contract, big difference in my mind.
