I think we got all we could for a guy that was literally going to FA next year regardless of what happens between now and then.

Solid goalie prospect and a 1st in a great draft or Reinhart for another year and then hes gone?

- DirtyDan

And the pick is conditional (if it's top 10 it rolls back a year)

It's a bad deal as I hate goalie prospects (They almost never develop as planned)

I'd have been much more ok with it if it ws Tippett oand thrilled if it was Lundell

- sbroads24

That's why you load up on em and now we have 2 great prospects at goal and a good one.

That first next year could be better then both Lundell and Tippett

he's a rental and, it would seem, is considered a winger

Who knows what could happen. Injuries, tough division. I'd have told them GFYS with that condition. I still don't get the urgency to trade Sam on draft night.

If you want to call Sam Reinhart a rental you are just lying to yourself.

I understand the pain of being a Buffalo Sabres fan but let's be truthful in our pain.

The Montreal rumors seem dumb. If it was Caufield and Suzuki, it would be done already. It doesn't make sense that the Sabres would hold out for Chiarot when we already have 2 number 1 overalls at left D.

Pretty disappointed with the Reinhart trade. Unreal that the Sabres management thinks rebuilding the rebuild is the answer.

What's next? More tanking? More "suffering"? lol

Looking back it's absurd a professional hockey team told their fans to prepare for suffering. Losers lose. Winners win

- chilliard77

Florida is a great place to play hockey. He's RFA, we can't predict his next contract but we will know shortly.

But it wasn't a rental
- chilliard77

He wouldn’t agree to extension w/FL before trade, and hasn’t signed anything yet. Could still only be one year in FL. Yes, more than a “playoff rental”, but he doesn’t even have a contract for this year.

It's almost like sam was overrated by plenty of Sabres fans.

Interdivison trade for a future 1st rounder.

Why didnt they get more?

One would assume that other non division offers were worse. (If any)

Maybe the Sabres aren't worried about playing against sam in the future, within the division 🤔

I don't understand how we didn't learn our lesson the first time we tried this method. Losing doesn't breed winners. Even the Oilers are still struggling but I commend them for hiring a manager that knows how to win and wants to.

all i've ever heard is that he wants to go back west...

you're right, we shall see...if he re-signs, i'll agree it was a weak return...if he doesn't (which is how i'm looking at it,) i'd consider it a decent return for a one-year rental

Not only him, but I wasn't directing that at him or the other poster who was suggesting it

draft twitter was way overhyping Eklund for months and it was obvious the NHL wasn't as high on him.

Almost every draft insider had Eklund anywhere from 3-7.

Taking him at #1 would've been incredibly dumb

- sbroads24

Eklund is this years Pettersson.

Sharks and Kings both got top 3 players in this draft at 7 and 8.

Must be nice

Important re-signing here from Vegas, which will now require some cap-clearing at some point. It was a huge priority for the Golden Knights to keep Alec Martinez. The pend UFA D had been pondering Vegas' offer since last week.

Hearing Vegas @GoldenKnights are closing in on an extension to keep D Alec Martinez off the market.

Expect Martinez to come in around $5 million, perhaps a little more, on a three-year deal.

@DFOHockey

Pretty sure this takes them out of the Eichel sweepstakes

Unless they can get SUPER creative with their cap
