Just like Jack and ROR their bonuses count towards their cap hit but paying out a bonuses like ROR on July 1st was strictly a cash out thing.

The Blues still are charged for ROR's cap hit of $7.5 million but had the Sabres paid his bonus the Blues only would have had to pay ROR like $1 million for the season or something

Jack's contract is much different than ROR's

Most of O'Reilly's contract is signing bonuses $45.5 million out of $52.5 is paid out in signing bonuses which if I remember correctly has been changed because only $7 million is charged to the players fund or something like that.

Basically it takes money out of the pockets of the guys playing on vet minimums and their pensions

You may be correct, but if you take out Quick, the deal is Turcotte, Bjornfot, and the 22 1st for Eichel.

That's not great, and taking on Quick who has 2 years left on his deal means the price goes up a bit on the return, otherwise you're saying Eichel isn't worth the not great to start return.
