Seider wouldn't require waivers though right? Newpower will be in GR.
- TheSeer

Seider wouldn't no but if he plays the way we know he can play, he shouldn't be sent down just so they can sign some vet that has no future in Detroit. Waiving Lindstrom and possibly losing him on waivers for a vet (after protecting him in the expansion draft no less) would be shades of Holland with Quincey kind of stupidity.

Adding Staal i just think they might add 1 or 2 guys to be called up from GR and add vet presence to GR. McIlrath and Hicketts are both UFAs.

I'll go with that. My concern question is will DD be able to stay healthy next season? Say he doesn't the d pairs change dramatically. Because we know how the injury bug loves the Wings.
- TheSeer

Yeah but unless they want to carry 8 defenseman (when everyone is healthy) i can see them signing guys mainly for the AHL that can be called up and sent down without too much worry about losing them.

they can send DD up and down, nobody is going to take that cap hit.
DD is done (with this team). was never really that good and the back injuries made it worse. i think they sign one more defenseman.

I'm fine with DDK being up and down, as said above, no one is going to grab him with his contract size and back issues. I legitimately hope he is comfortable playing and isn't putting himself at high risk by doing so, i'd rather see a player retire than have to deal with a lifetime of problems from hockey that could have been avoided. It makes me think of Franzen's concussions and Zetterberg's nagging problems later in his career.

Hjalmarsson......how come no one mentions signing Hjalmarsson???? A defensive stalwart. Has his play fell off a cliff? Has he stated that he stays in the desert?? Is he retiring?

I'm betting Steve signs Jon Merrill to a modest contract on Wednesday.

I would rather take on Stralman for 2023 2nd round pick from FLA, he would be almost an identical deal to Staal 1 year at 5.5m and could flip him and still give us a bit of depth, hes not very appealing at 5.5 but for half salary someone would want him, and DD could be waived (or he may be out shortly after season start anyway?)

And bring back Nemeth and complete the "reunion".

** - Mark Easson listed Tyler Johnson as a possible buyout candidate. If his salary is really lower, I still love that kid. I know he doesn’t move the needle for a lot of people any more. Still wouldn’t mind getting him.

I’m not giving up on possible Detroit buyouts, but not hearing much. Nielsen and Dekeyser would be top candidates, but both deals expire this year. May be better just to ride it out

Listen, if TJ is a buy-out, I imagine there will be several teams looking for a contract with him. He's still a very serviceable Center. I'd say he could fill the void until Bergy & Veleno come of age. When I looked at the Wong's Cap Friendly, I counted 15 Centers.....Kinda misleading because we don't have that many, most are "2-way", I reckon. But TJ would check the box, give the kids time to develop a bit more, but think he's going to be relatively high-priced. Or maybe not......I'd take him on a 1-yr deal, $2-3m.

Merrill was actually a pretty good D-man. I've bring him back.

yeah, no sense in doing TB any favors...let them buy him out and see if you can scoop him up later. But he will most likely sign with NYR or Boston or even Montreal or Toronto. Oh, well. Maybe sign Brassard or Bozak on a short deal.

Yeah, he's solid, affordable and has ties to the area. Given DD's fragile health and the fact that all three current LD are on expiring contracts, a dependable depth LD is needed. Merrill fits the bill. I'm thinking a two year deal at about 1mil AAV.

I would think he is waiting on Montreal to offer him something.

What would make you think that? He was benched during the playoffs after being excoriated by the Montreal hockey media. I don't think he could get out of Montreal fast enough.
