Montreal probably makes an offer to Virtanen on Wednesday.

They only played against 6 teams.
- Steven_Seagull

So did many other teams and everyone keeps talking about how they are so much better positioned than the leafs. Like Carolina is potentially about to let Hamilton walk for nothing.

Everyone says oh they should have traded Hyman last year but man, those same people would have been freaking out on that's why they lost in the playoffs if he was traded for a 2nd round pick last year.

That’s exactly what would have happened. It’s so monotonous.

But but but that's only because the Leafs suck so hard they had an easy first round.

The same people who say no other team does what the Leafs are doing with their cap, also insist the Leafs trade pending UFAs at the deadline when they are in a playoff spot, which no team in sports does.

Leafs didn’t suck, it was bad luck. 🤷‍♂️

The leafs broke historic team records this year, I don’t know how Dubas doesn’t get credit for that. The playoffs result was a combination of bad luck and Price playing lights out.
- shack67

Would they have broken those records had they play every team? Why does it always seem like the leafs have bad luck and the team they are playing have good luck?

If Hyman was dealt at the start of last season, I doubt the trade would've been for a 2nd. It would've been for a roster player.

When the Leafs had a so-so record, did they have an amazing winning percentage against teams that were lower than them in the standings?

Somebody go back and find where the Leafs weren't really good, but they had their best winning percentage of all time against teams behind them. Thanks in advance!

Lou, the guy the Leafs fired so they could give an inexperienced KD the GM job, has had extremely good luck and won two GM of the years awards consecutively, and poor Dubas has just had bad luck. Nothing else could possibly explain it.

Ya, that’s it.

Bad luck for 5 years in a row.

Which records? Most wins ever for a 56 game season? Most wins ever in the all Canadian division? Let’s raise a banner!

C'mon man, Lou winning those awards is like when they give a director a lifetime achievement Oscar even though his real work was thirty years ago.

Who would be the heart and soul guy of the leafs in your opinion? And I agree, not for that price tag.
- matt1337

I don't think there is such a thing or such a player. I do feel like our best players should strive to be our best players but I don't think there's a guy in this lineup who you can point to and say, "that guy there can change this team's fortunes with a few shifts based on pure effort".

I mean, sure, Auston Matthews can score a goal and change the course of the game, but that's not necessarily tapping into "heart and soul" territory.

I wills say this: Hyman plays the game with a high tempo and is always annoying for the opposition to play against. Just ask Mike Smith who recently talked about it in lieu of signing Zach.

I'd like to have more jam in the cupboard. Here's hoping guys like Nick Robertson, Joey Anderson, and *new acquisition guy(s)* can add to the compete level this season and replace what Hyman offered.

Nope. Just good luck.

Dubas would’ve won if it wasnt for his remarkably bad luck.

I love Hyman. I think he would not be out of place right now on a Team Canada. But finally the Leafs are not keeping a guy AFTER his prime.

Spezza is past his prime…

And there’s been a laundry list of past-their-prime FA signings. None of which worked out.

All these ancient guys hang on to these jobs because they don’t know what else to do. They probably don’t even know their own kids and their wives can’t stand them. The only thing that they accomplish is keeping qualified young men with better ideas on the sidelines.

Do you think the Leafs have the same winning percentage over an 82 game schedule in the Atlantic division? Do you think they finish 1st in the division?

I don't.
