It's not like the top-heavy distribution isn't a known problem - but $5m for a 3C feels like a poor use of capspace. I mean, the guy is going to play 12 - 15 minutes / game. I'd love Danault, but he's also looking in that range. Bonino? Nash? - Monkeypunk
I think 5 mil for 3c isn't good value on any team.
I like Nash coming back. |

Bonino makes a lot of sense.
can't see him breaking the bank either. |

how many of those other elite PK guys make close to $11M per season? how many of those other elite PK guys are afraid to throw, or take a hit to make a play? |

that's way too much money to pay someone on our 3rd line.. Maybe trade Engvall and sign Joe Thornton to a 1 yr deal again - PatC80

Yeah I mean there is much more that goes into getting a goalie than just signing a guy that looked good on another team.
I really don't like too many available options. The FA market is crap aside from Mrazek. - Santo_44

I think he could be good 3rd liner with someone who can score.
Maybe Gally 🦒and give Mikeyev 1 more crack.
Could also slide Spezza up on that line if 1 of them is faltering. |

I like Bonino or Nash in that they bring a responsibility that we haven't had and the ability to deploy them on the PK. Bonino seems to have a bit more speed and offensive flair and is also above average in the face off circle. Nash is smart and stable, but definitely less flashy. Nash is more effective on the PK, but likely less apt to bring any offense out of an already challenged 3rd line. Still if you want to be able to deploy a shut down line, he'd be a decent part of one. |

I'd try Brooks in the 3spot too. Like there's options and noone says you can't get one via trade during the season. |

Maybe bring in both Nash and Bonino.. Although, maybe they go after someone like Kahun or Khaira since Edmonton didn't qualify either one |

Yeah its going to be new guy-Bonino-Mikhyev in this scenerio.
I really like McGinn and hope they sign him.
McGinn-Bonino-Mikhyev would be a solid reliable 3rd line. |

Yes, almost like that... If we could only move out (#16) one of them to improve the rest of the roster.. Moving one big contract (#16) would be a big help.. The question is (#16) which contract do they move? - PatC80

I'm definitely not on the bandwagon to spend 5M on a 3C. I'm definitely on the bandwagon of shifting that distribution from 1RW to 1RHD.
I'm also under no illusion that #16 is going anywhere this season. Just having fun fantasizing. |

Leafs should maybe go after Alex Nylander?
put him on the 2nd line with Tavares and William Nylander

Setting aside your bitterness for a moment - what does taking or throwing a hit have to do here?
Let's state the obvious: Marner is a top-5 point getter in the league. He's an elite penalty killer.
Now we can revist his negative impacts which are that he's small of frame and size. Should Chicago have traded Patrick Kane or Alex DeBrincat because they don't hit or get hit?
If the decision is that Toronto needs to change it's on-ice dynamic (which I suspect will be the outcome after this last kick at the can), then it's likely that Marner will be one of the first people shipped out to change the construction of the team. But Chicago won two cups led by a small guy like Kane. Marner has the same thing going for him, and I wouldn't get rid of him because the team failed to perform against Montreal. Last year McDavid was held pointless in 2 games against the Jets being swept. The Oilers aren't going crazy trying to trade him. They're going crazy acquiring 40 year old players or signing players until they're 40. That's different.
The cap problem in Toronto is certain centered around Marner making $1.5 - $2m too much - but the real issue is probably that we are paying our second line centre $11m and he didn't even bother showing up for the playoffs after about a minute. |
