I wish he tapped into that "elite" penalty killing when it mattered most.
- mjones242

When it mattered most he was in the penalty box serving 2 minutes for delay of game.

Then we only need to replace 90-100 points and elite penalty killing, easy peasy.
- Zezel

I was going to say that I don't know if I consider Marner an elite penalty killer per se - just based on how he goes about it (he's not tight to the man, he doesn't check tight, and he doesn't cause turnovers once a player has controlled the puck; he's not a pressure PK guy).

I looked at the numbers, and to me results matter, but results are often based on the goaltending behind you.

How well do you suppress chances against and how well do you suppress high danger chances against?

Ignoring the opportunities created (which Marner is great at), Marner is the 6th best forward (minimum 50 minutes on PK) at allowing HD Chances against. To me that's notable because above you have Killorn, Gourde and Cirelli from Tampa, Atkinson and Kuraly. If you look you see a couple more Columbus players in the top-15 and a couple more Boston players in the top-20 -- but the next Leaf after Marner is Kerfoot at 28. Marner leads the Leafs in every meaningful PK category - shot suppression, dangerous shot suppression, expected goals against and 2nd in actual goals against. (edited to add a clarification: To me this indicates that the others are a byproduct of being good within a good system; Marner stands out well above the deployed system in Toronto).

So in other words: Don't mind me. Carry on. *I'll* allow him to be called an elite penalty killer.

A little good news for a Monday morning:

https://www.reuters.com/b...y-level-study-2021-07-26/

- Atomic Wedgie

A British study last month showed similar results - an AstraZeneca shot followed by Pfizer produced the best T-cell responses, and a higher antibody response than Pfizer followed by AstraZeneca.

Does the bolded mean I can cancel my cell phone plan?

It's the second dumbest rule in hockey. It's unfortunate that it happened. I'm not holding that one against Marner. We were all disappointed at his level of engagement in the playoffs. For the record, I'd still consider trading him for the right return, but given how much top-2 defensemen are now being paid, I'm not sure we'd get the cap savings out of trading Marner that we need.

Little bit of a different division, but we should still be fine....maybe.

I fully expect them to add another Goalie and Hutch is the 3rd or 4th string.

will that other 1b/backup put up better than .919
we will see

Kuemper will be a Leaf I think.

Mrazek is an option in FA but will be plenty of situations for him.

Sure, if we could get a Top 4 d-man in return and some picks for Marner that'd be swell. Landy is a warrior!

I think this is pure fantasy though. I expect Marner to only be dealt after Dubas is Fredo'd by Shanny.

I concur

so next summer

Better, got my feeling back in my left toes finally. It was the last thing keeping me in the hospital. Thankfully it was very minor, so I shouldn't have any lasting damage.

Elliote Friedmans predictions

Free agency...

Dougie Hamilton: New Jersey

David Savard: Montreal

Gabriel Landeskog: not hugely confident in this prediction, but he and Colorado find a way

Blake Coleman: the prediction is, he gets 6x5

Jaden Schwartz: Seattle, basically done during the Kraken’s exclusive window

Brandon Saad: St. Louis, Islanders, Pittsburgh or Los Angeles

Kyle Palmieri: haven’t heard a thing, which means the Islanders probably have him locked up

Phillip Danault: Los Angeles takes a surprise look

Alec Martinez: stays in Vegas

Alex Goligoski: Minnesota

Derek Forbort: Boston

Zach Hyman: Edmonton. Makes me feel I’m getting one right

Alexander Ovechkin: 3x10 to stay in Washington

Ryan Suter: Dallas

Florida: locks up Sam Bennett, Sam Reinhart and Carter Verhaeghe.

They are rumoured to be willing to retain. In fact they want to retain so they can stay at the cap floor.

I'd imagine they want to wait until FA to make sure they can get a replacement for him.

I really do think that move is coming.

Welcome back. What’s the right amount of feeling to lose to be a Leaf’s fan?
